    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

Trainer form would be a concern and he has certainly struggled since the Shamrock Thoroughbred horses departed. However, I assume he hasn’t forgotten how to train and a big winner would be more important than ever. So, perversely, this increases my confidence in a big run tomorrow.

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Same combination have Imperial Sovereign in the main race (Northumberland Plate) 66/1. That would be a nice double.

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

Trainers seem to agree with you, as only 4 of the 20 have employed claimers for this one. One of them is Jamie Powell on Tribal Star for Ado McGuinness. Jamie of course, won, lost and won again in the Cesarewitch last season. He is a very forceful young jockey who still claims 3lb and is well...

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

The argument for preferring a claimer in a staying race makes sense, but so does this. So now I don’t know what to think. However, this particular claimer is doing well in staying races with her useful 7lb.

Ascot Take Outs Days 3 and 4

Had a busy week just got to days 3 and 4. I must have watched the Britannia fourteen times and La Botte did stand out obviously but yeah Australia so not interested now. I'm taking Fifth Column for the boys in blue who was best from the low draws. Connections said he would be going to Australia...

John and Amy Hunt “Standing Strong”

John Hunt always seemed to me to be such a nice guy when I saw him presenting on Sky Racing, interviewing racing people, and his good humour in dealing with Matt Chapman, when he was being Matt Chapman. His impact statement at the trial of the murderer of his wife and children (on the first...

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

A bit harsh that I think. She is doing quite well and I recall her riding a nice winner on Tides of War at Lingfield at a big price earlier this year. Didn’t panic and got up right on the line. She is 10 wins from 97 this season. 4 from 15 in races beyond 1m 6f (+£46.25 on level stakes). I...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

He is interesting, but the reason William Buick is riding is that the Wathnan Team bought him after his last win and will now use their choice of jockey. They are pretty good judges.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

Yes he was. I had to look this up on Wikipedia. It’s quite an unexpectedly long article. Apparently he tipped Ayala when it won the 1963 Grand National. That must have been his last winner then, as he retired in 1978.

John Oaksey was hopeless as a tipster but tbf didn't pretend to be anything else, My Dad used to say he couldn’t tip his hat. Whilst metaphorically true, like John Rickman, he actually could.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

I think ITV said they wanted to largely move away from that aspect when they took over, part of the reason they dispensed with Graham Cunningham, Jim McGrath and Tanya Stephenson (the latter still works in the background on ITV Racing). On the viewing figures: I looked back at last years...

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

In last years Melrose, Imperial Sovereign gave Too Bossy For Us 9lb and finished a head behind it. He will be 2lb better off on Saturday and is 66/1. Too Bossy For Us best price 7/1. Only problem is IS has gone to Phil Kirby, 1 from 62 on flat this year and no winner on flat for 4 months. TBFU...
