    Galway Festival 2025

In the 5.35 tomorrow, El Champo at 33/1 appeals. His last 11 runs have all been over fences and he reverts to hurdles for this. He has run at Galway twice before and won both times (over hurdles). He has run 2 bad races recently, one in May and another in June, but after a short break (he has...

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

When Foley took over as Stable Jockey to Jessica Harrington in 2019, he already had an agreement with Yuesheng and that continued. As he has been hopping over this season for rides, I assume it is still in place.

In that 1.20 I am hoping Thunder Wonder might run well. When he stormed to victory at Musselburgh in April, I immediately envisaged him being a prime candidate for one of these handicaps at Goodwood. I was a bit disappointed when he won in the meantime, but I still think his mark is OK and this...

Without wishing to undermine your reasoning, I think Shane Foley has been riding most of these Zhang Yuesheng horses recently (though Oisin Murphy has a decent record for them too) so probably couldn’t have been claimed by Balding.

The 2025 Glorious Goodwood Day 1 (Tuesday) thread

In the 5.30 today, I’m a bit puzzled as to why Greydreambeliever is such a big price, at 40/1. She had 2 very good 2yo runs, then disappointing so far this season, until decent run, in first time cheekpieces, when hampered on last run under a 7lb claimer. Could go well today on slightly easier...

He’d be interesting if he turns up in the Stewards Cup on Saturday - if you can keep your head away from the oven for another 4 days.

Well done there, hope you won plenty.

I mentioned him on here prior to that run at Ascot and my immediate thought afterwards was the Stewards Cup. He is still entered in that, currently 40/1, and I’d be more interested in him if he ran in that, although I’ve still backed him today anyway. I’m sure there is a good race in him.

I’ve already lost - backed him at 25/1 a couple of days ago!

I thought it was a bit odd that Danny Tudhope doesn’t ride at Goodwood today, or tomorrow, as I quite liked Tundra Rose later on the card, but he rides at Ripon.

    Goodwood/galway week.

Same shortlist as mine. Thought last 2 might have been a bit longer odds though.

Agree with both on this one. I suspect he may be better later in the season when ground gets softer though. Not sure how reliable his ratings were in Italy, Germany and Meydan, but the fact he has produced a good run at Sandown already here makes his price here look worth a little investment. I...

    Galway Festival 2025

Squeezed out at the start and never well positioned - that's racing, there will be plenty of that this week at Galway and Goodwood. Had been backed into 12/1, so someone else fancied it. In the tracker now for later in season!

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

The 4.20 Goodwood Tuesday is a bit of a guessing game, but the Newland/Insole combo run an interesting 2yo called Legacy Rock. 160,000gns would be a fair layout for them for this once raced colt. Ran green on debut over 7f at Lingfield under Gina Mangan and now dropped to 6f for this £31k...

The 2025 Glorious Goodwood Day 1 (Tuesday) thread

Although I’ve backed Jakajaro again, he does need a wealth warning, and Jamie Spencer couldn’t find a route through on him at Ascot. Goodwood might be even harder, especially if they all come over to the stand side. He’s well drawn in 20 if they don’t. He is only 10/1 at the moment, but it is...

    Galway Festival 2025

I went once, it poured with rain and I didn’t see what all the fuss was about. I think they’ve added an extra day since then. I’m not going to let a little thing like impenetrable handicaps put me off though. I quite fancy Fiona Maccoul in the 7.15 tomorrow. Jessie Harrington/Shane Foley is a...

The 2025 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes

I agree. They controlled the race to he benefit of one horse only and to the detriment of the other four. It was puzzling to say the least. For balance, I did hear Seb Sanders on Sky Sports Racing saying the Coolmore plan was a great plan. He was a decent jockey and I couldn’t ride to save my...

The 2025 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Whilst I agree with you, I can’t see how you can resolve this. For instance you could limit Aidan O’Brien entries and then suddenly Joseph and Donnacha might rock up with a runner or two. As many of these horses are owned by “the lads” they could just amend the official owners to name just one...

I'd have said 'transplanted' from Johnny Murtagh to David Menuisier 😁 Interesting observation though. He will be targeting this meeting and I'm hoping Toimy Son goes for a repeat in the big mile race.

Bit of a shock when you first see it, but it's growing on me. Apart from the colour, I think it suits him.
