What are you backing Today? Part 2

With you on Lesley’s Boy, again (can only get 20’s though, unfortunately). The time of that 6.50 today was pretty quick, especially as I was expecting soft. Law of Design scraped 4th for me, but softer going would have helped improve his chance.

    The 2025 International Handicap

That should have said Paul Kealy (spellchecker and me not rechecking before pressing send)! Now best price 25/1 - someone must have put a fiver on.

    The 2025 International Handicap

Annoyingly, Paul Kelly has also flagged Sword in his Ante Post column. Bet365 are still 33’s, but most of the others have cut it already. I still want to wait for declarations, to make sure he runs and gets an OK draw. Oddly, I’d be more confident if he was a big price, rather than backed down...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

You’ve picked a hard race in attempting to solve the 6.50. My eyes were drawn to Sergeant Pep, but not overly excited by 11/2. Will back Law of Design (best price 28/1 with Bet365). After 2 good initial efforts last season, he hasn’t beaten a rival in 4 subsequent goes, albeit the first of these...

    The 2025 International Handicap

If I were to have a stab at this race at this early stage, I’d go for the bottom horse, Sword. Bought out of the Gosden stable by David O’Meara, but previous part owner now owns it outright. Ran some decent races this season, the best of which was probably at Leicester, over a straight 7f with...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

The 40 to 50lbs that gets talked about as the difference between flat and hurdles is just a guide and obviously depends on how a horse jumps and takes to either discipline. There are examples of horses who have had similar ratings at both. Personally, I’ve learnt not to pay too much regard to...

You needn’t have worried, Roundhay Park (a place I’ve spent plenty of time in) gets the send off he deserves. Well done.

Go Athletico 2.00 Curragh 20/1 (28/1 last night) would be a gift if he could recapture former glories. I’ll give him another chance with Shane Foley aboard.

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

I just heard Jason Weaver giving a good shout to Ambishio for the Super Sprint. That is one of the 3 outsiders I backed (at 66/1on Thursday). 40/1 last I looked, but drawn 2 might be a negative.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I’m not in NH mode at the moment and risk of rain (I see it’s pouring at Market Rasen at the moment) changing the going adds a further complexity to trying to work out the puzzles. However, with the fare elsewhere being less than exciting for a Saturday I did have a little go at it. Maghlaak...

Don’t give up, things will change in time. Maybe you are saving your luck up for one day, when they all go in and you win big 😁

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Agree about the race and when I have invested in it, it has been unsuccessfully. I did consider Son of Sarabi, but still haven’t got over his narrow defeat by the ill-fated Norman’s Cay, when I had backed him the night before the Brocklesby at 50/1 and 66/1. I’ve backed 3 big outsiders in it...

What about “should of”? Even my spellchecker changed it to “should have” and I had to go back and amend it.

Too right. She would have tested him a bit more. It probably would have been a car crash!

Very interesting. He is always worth listening to. I like his rules, not so much his meal planning.
