When should you draw a line

Oh, yes, I'm well acquainted with 'Dogs of the Turf', Grayson! It's applied enough times for Flat, turf and AW, and anything with obstacles included. In fact, as you'll see on here, most losing bets can be attributed to horses of the canine persuasion!

Zenyatta has suggested the 2m novice at Aintree (not Cheltenham at this stage), Links. (See post above.)

Sounds like a plan, Zen - that would be fabulous to see. Horse is so agile, skips across the ground, and looks like he is thoroughly engaged with his work at all times. Got to be a joy to be on a confident, thorough-going type like that. Stevie: ah, tactical punting, then! ;)

I don't think you understand what I meant by dog. Dog, as in a verb, not a noun. I know QC wasn't a dog, I was implying that, like a terrier, he would doggedly follow the field through thick and thin in the same way that a terrier never gives up on its target. Happy enough to be corrected on...

Sure did, Links - the Rubester's arms must be 2" longer now! But not through being naughty - just keen as mustard to get going... and going... and going! Like Bob Cooper said, why give a 150-rated hurdler a 15 lengths lead? Did the others imagine he'd blow up - I can only think they did, because...

SANCTUAIRE!! 6 y.o. French bred and initially run hurdler with Nicholls, gallops superbly with long, flowing action and soars over all bar perhaps two in his inaugural novices' chase at Taunton just now. Blimey! Looks like SPRINTER SACRE and runs/jumps like him, too. Outstanding galloping -...

The Falklands - are we off again?

So, what is the problem with inviting neutral observers to oversee a referendum on the island, asking islanders to choose from continuing British sovereignty, Argentinian governance, or a combined governance by both countries - giving three possible outcomes, but no doubt quite clearly showing...

I think The Wrestler works as a snapshot of part of a life in an area of work most of us know little about, but as for reading great symbolism into it, etc., no, that'd be pretentious. I enjoyed it for what it is - probably won't need to see it again as it's a simple tale, but neatly told...

Watching The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei. Mickey's so not the beautiful younger man he was in Angel Heart, having let his face get pounded in boxing, but has still got one very attractive body. And one helluva good piece of acting from him, too. Enjoyable insight into the...

There's no point pursuing a horse's career, is there, Aragorn, if you allow it to develop a serious jumping fault like that? Lengths and lengths lost, not to mention the very real possibility of barging someone out of the race. There are some good people who can correct these faults (at a...

Thanks, Steve. It was indeed a very strange performance and I wondered if he'd been pronounced sore somewhere, maybe back/shoulder, to be favouring going off on the diagonal like that?

    Racing today.

No probs at Plumpton, it was just -1C last night, they've had the take-off/landing covers on for a few days, too.

    The Pointing Thread

Who was it who treated us to the sight of him pinning his hapless pilot's legs after pitching over? Interesting manoeuvre to release the lad - one person per horse leg, heave horse onto back, yank jockey out from under, replace horse onto side to recover!

    The Pointing Thread

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day out in Irish Stamp's company at Charing. Unlike some horsey events, this was a very egalitarian affair - I was expecting to hear braying accents and be overwhelmed by tweed, which wasn't the case at all, and it really was extra fun to be allowed to approach so...

    Racing in HD

Some of us, though, don't watch racing for betting. We watch it because we simply like it. If you're betting properly, I'm sure you're bringing in way more than enough to pay for RUK. But for those of us who can't really be called punters, and are on reduced or limited incomes, it's quite a...

Just tried to have a bet with Ladbrokes

EC, I don't know who or what Goodkat is - is he someone who's made a pest of himself on here? All I've seen is people taking the mickey out of his posts, so I assumed that this was another put up for a laugh - i.e., there's no way he has that sort of money. I suppose I'd need to know (and...
