Point Blank: Did JP McManus Stop a Gold Cup Winner?

No vets’ report at Haydock, everyone just took the word of ‘Team Henderson’. The ground was soft enough that day, as I recall. No excuses for things happening too quickly.

Point Blank: Did JP McManus Stop a Gold Cup Winner?

I’ll throw this one in for consideration: https://www.racingpost.com/results/23/haydock/2013-11-23/589375 Henderson GC winner, trailed in by 40 lengths in a Betfair Chase. Wins his next race in Ireland - the Savills. Stewards not asking why the improved performance at Leopardstown, and no...

    The 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Most GC winners are bottomed after their exertions in March. That could be the obvious explanation.

    The 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Very open race now. 4/1 the field? Last two winners looking very beatable, all of a sudden. And plenty of runners for the four places.

The 2025 Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase

She saves her best for Cheltenham in the Spring (unbeaten), and is a reliable jumper of a hurdle. She is very underrated.

The 2025 Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase

I don’t agree. Plenty of very good horses have been slowed down over their optimum distance at Cheltenham, allowing a plodder to steal a place.

The 2025 Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase

If it comes up soft, he could easily run into a place. Him and Golden Ace are my each-way double banker for Cheltenham.

The 2025 Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase

And we forget Synchronised winning a WGN a season before he won a CGC.

The 2025 Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase

Is HC likely to run in a Cheltenham GC? He’d sneak a place in an attritional race. That was some weight-carrying performance.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

I like smiley people, that’s all! 😀 Jinny has vouched for JW, so all is well.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Not sure. He lacks authority, I think.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Yeah, ok Jinny, I may have misjudged him. But he should still smile a bit more for the cameras. I’m not that keen on Ed Chamberlain. I think I’m on safe ground here, unless he had a two foot growth spurt at 13 and was in your Pony Club before that.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Luke Harvey definitely appears to be a lovely lad. I’d also put Oli Bell in that category, along with Rishi. Jason Weaver would never be your mate, though. Too much side to him, he looks like someone who would want you to fail badly. Very grumpy, too.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Has the race thrown up a few overrated horses? The first four finished in a heap, in record time. GDC and Iknowetc are still a way ahead of them, as far as Cheltenham is concerned.

    Get well soon, Gigs.

    Boxing Day fancies

Two fences from home, he was 50/1 in running! Absolutely stormed home.

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Two lengths down at the second last, but FTF’s challenge just fell away. A race for the ages!

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I see the Skeltons are aiming most of their darts at Aintree today; none at Kempton. I’m going in with a hooj acca!

The 2025 King George VI Chase

I still remain to be convinced, tbh. He beat Monty’s Star over 3m at Cheltenham, who has only won once over fences, and finished 20 lengths behind the winner in last season’s GC. I know Kempton is supposed to be easier, but many jockeys have said over the years that the King George is a proper...

The 2025 King George VI Chase

Is FtF just like Vautour? Didn’t quite get 3 miles. A stayer will get to him at the death. Banbridge for me.
