Haiti Couleurs is up to 166 with both BHA and TF. He’d need to be a genuine potential Gold Cup winner to defy that mark but he might well be.

Please pray for my wife. She got stung in the forehead by a wasp. She's in hospital, her face swollen and bruised. The doctor says she almost died. Fortunately I was close enough to kill the wasp with my shovel.

The 2026 Grand National Trial Handicap Chase

7/1 on the RP card at the time. Might have been a mistake on their part.
  8. Desert Orchid

The 2026 Grand National Trial Handicap Chase

Myretown (7/1) really needs to win well to get up the ratings enough to be sure of making the cut for Aintree. That would make the price attractive were it not for the fact he is also engaged on Friday at Kelso in a race that will be much easier to win. The powder will need to remain in a cool...

    All in the timing :)
  10. Desert Orchid

    Grand National

My bad, Oxford. I clicked on the wrong horse. I clicked on The Wallpark by mistake. He's the one rated 155 at Aintree. All the same, if OB is some way better than him....
  11. Desert Orchid

    Grand National

It isn't a case of whether I realise it. It's what the handicapper thinks that matters.
  12. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

They've already upgraded it to 155. A very small step in the right direction. I won't be surprised if that figures continues to get upgrade not unlike Galway Blaze back in the day.

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

Flakey Dove was the worst winner in my time watching the race. But what won in what year is irrelevant. It's the value of the form. We're obviously in disagreement about what yesterday's form amounts to. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm happy to wait and see how it pans out in the...
  14. Desert Orchid

    Grand National

I see OB (maybe that should be ICOB) won this afternoon so I took a wee look at its form. I hadn't realised it had run at Aintree last spring but back then it was off 155 as a novice hurdler. That will be its bare minimum UK chase mark and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up starting at...
  15. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

RPRs weren't up this morning but they are now. TQ 154 I suspect ORs and Timeform will be in the same ballpark when they appear.
  16. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

I didn't say it was rammed with G1 horses but it is traditionally rammed with horses that will pick up lesser races as and when connections want. Same with the Schweppes. Epatante won the GF off 137, went up to 150, won the Christmas Hurdle and then the CH when rated 159 and went up to 162...
  17. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

It is the most valuable 2m hcap hurdle in these islands, almost certainly in Europe, possibly in the world. I can get that one or two might have been using the race as a prep for Cheltenham but it is often the best hcap hurdle form in Ireland at the very least.
  18. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

It was heavy at Leopardstown last week. The leader ended up beaten over 16 lengths. The winner was out the back early. The winner's closing sectional was over 100% but below optimal. It was arguably slowing the least. I suspect the ground at Newbury was heavier but TQ went faster than the...
  19. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

I've had a look at some sectional stuff. TQ was fastest over the first four furlongs (obviously) in a fast time. The TV pictures showed the pack closing a bit and over the next four furlongs all of the eventual finishers, bar the horse that finished last, were faster. Over the next two furlongs...
  20. Desert Orchid

The 2026 William Hill Handicap Hurdle

I tend to agree and that's why I'm looking at the runner-up, Wellington Arch. Ignore the winner and the runner-up has pretty much done the same thing and has probably run to connections' expectations, ie I backed it (got 28/1) because Wreckless Eric seemed well-handicapped in its own right yet...
