    Irish Racing Thread

Er, if you are referring to luckyme as a newcomer then you’re pretty wide of the mark. 2016 trumps 2023 :D

Grand Teton fell off the back and didn’t make any serious effort, although stayed on and closed the gap. Ionian, though, ran very nicely in front, but wasn’t too slick at the hurdles - even ballooned a couple. Fought hard, but couldn’t quite hold the winner with the rest half a dozen lengths...

Saturday 31st Jan 2026 - Today's Bets, Betting, Race & Runner Analysis + Future Pointers From Races

Kaaress 16/1, Sixmilebridge 6/1, Pic Roc 7/2, - I thought I had a good day, Chaumi, but that’s something else. What are you on? Can I have some!

Aye, I won’t be backing Martator , but I’d be delighted to see him win to give them some cheer. As jj says, you don’t become a bad trainer overnight and they must be tearing their hair out.

Well, Buddy Holly didn’t sing very loudly when push came to shove. Ran and jumped nicely in the lead, but had nothing when it mattered. Flattened the hurdle two out, but was out of it by then and allowed to coast in. Hope Nico didn’t have to pay for his own petrol Wetherby off, so another...

    Another newby

Agree, jj, I don’t think Grey Dawning sits happily at the very top table. I suppose, too, that a counterpoint to the Skelton machinations is that he’s trying hard for the trainers championship and needs every penny of win money he can amass. So he’s unlikely to sacrifice a good win if he can...

Pretty dire racing at the moment and the notebook is quiet aside from a couple of no bet odds-on ones (one lost, one didn’t). I can’t raise much enthusiasm, although there is one notebook today. Very short and not a house and furniture job given the heavy going. 1:20 Ffos Las: Buddy Holly was...

    No words

Chaumi, I’m crying my eyes out sitting here in bed with Romeo beside me. He has cancer. Little lumps and bumps all over and one huge one on his paw where he had a toe off trying to halt it, but to no avail. He’s on pain killers and seems to cope not too badly, but I have to lift him up and down...

    Weight

Over the years I’ve bounced between weight matters most and weight matters a bit. After all, what difference can a couple of lbs make to a 1000lb beast? Not much, but then “not much” adds up over time and distance. Maybe “not much” is better exampled by speed. 0.1mph is not much, but a horse...

Can’t believe it, Stencil started at 6/5. I don’t usually back drifters, but, blimey, it wasn’t too difficult to shy away from Juby Ball given the weights and that ridiculous price.

The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

What a dilemma, Constitution Hill was the best I’d ever seen and well on his way to being the greatest of all time - then the wheels fell off. I can’t remember seeing a top horse being so affected by a fall - after the first one he ballooned the first hurdle in his next race as if it was a six...

2:37 Chepstow: Juby Ball was running very nicely at Ffos Las last time when he came a cropper - 8/1 evens favourite was going best of all when he fell three out. - but he’s miles wrong in the weights with the odds-on Stencil and has a mountain to climb. ps. Just seen Stencil has gone to evens...

Really strong race, I think and a good win by Maestro Conti who won’t be finished yet. Minella Yogi ran out of puff at the end in third and the surprise (not for Harry Derham) was the strong run of One Horse Town in second. I’ll be interested to see the ratings. Poor Sir Gino, fingers crossed...

    Cheltenham Trials Day- Saturday

Not quite sure , but in a key area. It’s an absolute farce watching them trying to build a rail to avoid it - surely they’ve got to abandon the race, Henderson has had enough and withdrawn AOI.

    Cheltenham Trials Day- Saturday

Just back from a late lunch and they’ve found a bloody great hole on the course - the groundsman chap pushed his arm in it up to shoulder. How it hasn’t caused catastrophe during the afternoon God knows. Then to find the horrible news about Sir Gino. Jeepers.
