Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Mahler (21), Coolmore NH sire that stood at The Beeches Stud. Sire of The Real Whacker, The Big Dog, Ornua and the sale topper in November Dawn Of Light. Thankfully Whitegrass syndicate have a lease on a Mahler half sister to Cracking Rhapsody to remember him by.

    The 2025 Long Walk Hurdle

Plenty to like about Colonel Mustard; jockey and trainer not too well known across the water adds to the price being generous

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Blue Bresil (20) at Glenview Stud. Sire of Constitution Hill, Royal Pagaille, Mick's Jazz among others , he was the go to stallion when CH did his thing. Relations with the horse cooled off tis year with some horse folk saying they do not fulfil early promise. His first Irish crop were 4yos...

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Khaadem is one of those prices this weekend in Sha Tin HKsprint. The Lion In Winter is 16/1 for the HK mile. Juicy prospect for an ew double methinks. Pity I just missed Mags Mullins' Cheltenham winner to fund it....

    Jp macmanus

This is one story I heard on how the great one got started... 1978, after many stuttering attempts the great one was facing the abyss. The game was up, the story over. He met a old school mate, a recently retired jockey /horse trainer who told him of a mare in his care who was a dead cert for a...

Indeed she did. Owners came from near Kildorrery, including the priest and John Joe Walsh won a p2p and 5 races with her before she moved to Mary Reveley's. She was named after the nearby River Funshion if memory recalls. Dam of Arkle winner Captain Chris.

    ITBA Stallion Trail 2026

The stallion trail is open for registration . Studs are open Friday January 16 and Saturday 17, snow permitting. I believe the big annual racing quiz will be held Friday 16th in Lord Bagenal Hotel if anyone is interested. My plan is to hit Coolmore (pre registration required) Friday morning on...

    Hawk Wing is dead

Fair to say he showed a rare depth of talent once every season, a Gallic Warrior of the flat . The Lockinge could nearly have been called off with high wind and rain , Hawk Wing ran so fast he dried himself as he ran . Maybe he just too much out of himself when right that he could not repeat...

    The 2025 Tingle Creek Chase

Remember having a bet on him in the Grand National the year he ran up a sequence of wins , Great Yorkshire included. Tingle Creek one of many USA chasers that came to Europe in the 1970s including Soothsayer and Inkslinger. Pretty sure they all met in a Colonial Cup before their European adventures.

    The 2025 Tingle Creek Chase

I see the following juvenile hurdle has a future Lincoln winner The Hertford and Jer, a son of Sea Bird that won 4 mile chases in later life.

    Hawk Wing is dead

He holds the all aged record for 7 furlongs at The Curragh for his National Stakes win as a juvenile. Draw at the wrong side at Newmarket and soft ground plus High Chapparal scuppered his Derby bid though the third was 12 lengths back . An unlucky horse to be the same age as Rock Of Gibraltar...

Golden Cygnet was another that carried his head so low his knees used contact his teeth , causing him to bleed. Edward O'Grady got special boots made for him but he learned from hurting himself . Check out his Festival win to see a real racehorse in action all you young folk out there. To answer...

It may be the paintwork or perchance was there any shadow at the take off side given The New Lion had a similar fall/dive. Always watch a horse's ears to check their focus on a jump; if pricked they are focusing , if lying back they are not. Similarly if they dislike the going their ears will...

    The 2025 Japan Cup

The race time was nothing short of amazing. 2m 20.3 for 12 furlongs is Secretariat like . I was hoping his GP de Saint Cloud win would help him turn the corner and became a confident racer; he did it all today ; cruised, accelerated and fought to the line . My father always maintained the Aga...

The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

NJH made a mistake dissing 2 mile chasers when declaring it was Gold Cup or bust for CH to go over fences. Amazingly no Champion Hurdle winner has won a Champion Chase since the latter race was introduced in the late 1950s. Pity Nicky and Michael did not try and make history; they had the ideal...

    The 2025 Japan Cup
