I hate Christmas but I love the New Year its a genuinely good time to set new goals. Rather than resolutions what are you going to do in 2013 to improve yourself or your level of happiness?

Think big, it's all out there if you put your mind to it.

I need to up my stake. After a solid couple of years the turnover needs increasing. A big dental bill has dented the bankroll but a decent Festival should rectify this. I have no doubt that the future will be profitable, it's just a case of sticking more on.

Im not doing loads of stuff and im going to do lots of things.

They all involve discipline. I need to be disciplined. Not in an s&m way

I'm restricting my win bets to Big Races, horses that catch my eye as future top class animals and the odd bit of decent info.

I've been experimenting on laying a couple of horses in each race, Dutching in reverse if you like and have been amazed at the results so I'll be concentration on that for a while and see how it goes.

Christmas is a very big deal in our house. The New Year is very subdued. I'm not into serious resolutions but I'll be trying to keep the weight off (not Son Of Flicka style) and I plan to cut back almost entirely on alcohol. My long-term aim is to be teetotal (bar a celebratory glass on big occasions) but I'm not putting a deadline on it.

Punting-wise, I'm happy with how things are going. I think I have the right balance between making enough money to cover holidays etc and being able to bet for the sake of an interest in a race without worrying at all if I lose. I'd need to check back but I'm pretty sure I ended up ahead in all the festival meetings in 2012 and will be chuffed to repeat that.

My eldest brother has officially retired and the one just above me hopes to retire in the summer. If that happens we might get to some of the big festival meetings together. If my daughter gets a full-time permanent job I can give up the part-time work I'm doing just now too.

2012 was good, not as good as 2011. Had 4 winners out of the horses I part own just didn't have enough on them. Orfevre winning the Arc would have helped, Susiescot not getting a race in the Stewards for a big treble too.

2013 for me will be about no big moves just consolidating and keep doing the right things and hopefully eliminate the mistakes.
