2025 Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase

Martator is the first one who catches my eye.

He's been campaigned at 1m7f110yds to 2m5f since coming over from France and I think he has a fair bit to commend him.

He's a course and distance winner, he ran a stormer to hammer Kotmask by 11 lengths last November and Charlie Deutsch is already jocked up.

Ok, he ran shockers at Sandown Park and previously back at Ascot on his last two outings, but he's now only 7lb higher than for that November win and he's still only an 8yo.

Obviously, a lot depends on where Iroko (entered at Kelso) goes, but that will take a chunk of the book if swerving this and, despite the blemishes, I don't see how Martator can be 20/1 (William Hill) IF he rocks up on the day.

Iroko has been declared for this race though I am sure I read earlier in the week that they were planning to go to Kelso. Martator doesn't go here, but is around 33/1 for the Grand Annual.

Looks like 16 declared - Iroko missed Kempton, first because the ground was considered too quick (it turned Soft) then they said horses who go right-handed before Aintree have a bad record (I Am Maximus won the Bobbyjo at right-handed Fairyhouse only last year).

He was going to Kelso, but now goes here.

"You don't know what you're doing!" they're chanting on the terraces. 😂

But at least here they can put this handicap mark to the test.

I will post a betting link when I see one.

With Iroko seemingly Scotland-bound, I actually think Le Milos could reward each-way support in this.

Many will see him as fully exposed, but what I see is a "Hennessy" winner who is no one-dimensional stayer, who has been steadily on the way back, won a Veterans event decisively last time out, yet is still 3lb below the mark he won the "Hennessy" off.

He's only ten, he's hardly ancient, and I just think he will be hard to keep out of the frame at a track he's proven at.

Booster Bob looked smart on his chase debut in October, but has disappointed three times since - all over two miles and all Class3. The only times he has run over further than two miles he was PU and last of four. Quite why Olly Murphy’s has chosen to run him in the two and a half mile Class1 Greatwood today is therefore a bit odd. Perhaps it’s a last ditch try or perhaps it’s been in mind for some time. Maybe 20/1 makes it worth finding out, but gone to 12/1 now (I’ve had to take it out of the longshot thread)

This is why I like creating these Big-Race threads.

Wha

Fantastic shout that, Barj

Well done.
Nicone,Barj - but a massive beneficiary of the strong early pace, imo

Aye, reet, but you’ve got to give it to Sean Bowen. It takes some nerve to let them go twenty lengths in front of the pack - and maybe over thirty to the leader.
