Norwich skies are dull, low and the grey is nicely enhanced by the cold easterly wind which the weather forecasters routinely fail to even mention when it’s clear to everyone I talk to that they are thoroughly hacked off with feeling perpetually cold. If only the weather people would concentrate less on smiling at all costs and actually reporting on the weather, they might convince me they know their meteorological arse from the meteorological elbow.
As for the garden, although the front is at its springtime best with daffs, tulips, forsythia, ribes, aconitum and primroses all thriving, my small back garden is all ready to go with replenished pots just waiting for their summer bedding plants. The worry is when? Can I be absolutely sure that the last frost has been and gone? I’m dying to pot them up but daren’t just yet.
I did a win patent yesterday on Heltenham11/4, Hunter Legend 7/2 with a nr Big City Roller and had a nice return with the two winners.
Quite a lot of racing today but I’m keeping my powder dry and trying to be as disciplined as possible. I’m doing two; one near - favourite and one outsider.
My close favourite is trained by the infuriating Lucinda Russell: Whistle Stop Tour. I’ve had my beady eye on this one since he started chasing and was so disappointed with his last run at Cheltenham where his stablemate won the flippin’ thing. Grrrr!. To be fair, once he was badly impeded at the very first fence, there was no way he was winning. It's so frustrating to see this happen to one you’ve been waiting for all season, just about. I’m hoping that recompence awaits here. I remember Lucinda winning with Apple Away at Perth last spring after disappointing at Cheltenham.
My second is not fancied by anyone, it appears, but It’s been a noted one of mine since he was hurdling in 2022: She’s Electric. She’s been off the course since December 2022 and it’s notable that they’ve kept her in training as a 10yo and give her a chase debut here. For one of her age, she’s remarkably lightly raced with just 13 races under rules. I thought she showed a little bit of class as a hurdler and I just can’t ignore her in this.
So, just the two:
Whistle Stop Tour – Perth 3.17 11/4 Win
She’s Electric – 3.25 Kilbeggan 28/1 Ew
Ew Double.
Good luck
