Starring GERARD BUTLER? Crikey, I've heard of career switches, but this is a bit radical! :o

It sounds jolly noisy, and the bloke doing all the roaring could use a packet of Strepsils.

It looks good, wouldn't mind seeing that. Although I have to point out that the battle at Thermopylae isn't a legend Mike - it really happened!!

I haven't read it yet Mike but I have a book called "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield about the happenings at Thermopylae. Steven Pressfield is very good with his novels and brilliant at describing the battle strategies in particular. His Alexander: The Virtues of War was very good.

Thermopylae and its impact on the rise of western civilisation from that time is very well covered in 'Persian Fire' by Tom Holland. The book deals with the rise of the Persian Empire and its decline after failing to beat the Greeks.

A modern historian who is not afraid to express an opinion, Holland has an impressive ability to present an accurate version of events in stimulating narrative. I literally read it without putting it down. Thoroughly recommended.

While on the subject of good historical books I am reading "The Pacific Campaign" by Dan Van Der Vat. A very well researched book it provides some great insights into WW2
