4x4 Charge In London

Yes, a good idea, which will be welcomed by nearly everybody.

But it's a not a 4X4 charge, it's a "gas-guzzler" charge, as the article indicates...

"The £25 charge will apply to vehicles emitting more than 225 grams of CO2/km (g/k), as well as those registered before March 2001 which have engines larger than 3,000cc".

I don't understand why so many children are unable to make their way to school by school bus, public transport, bicycle or shanks's pony. I was never driven to school - school bus from 4 to 6 years, walked 7 to 11 years, walk and bus 11 to 18 years. Anyone getting a lift from mummy would have been considered a right cissy.
 
I think you will find that the new charge of £25 for congestion charge can include many cars that are not Chelsea Tractors, so I suggest anyone who drives into London on a regular basis checks their cars CO2 omissions. Just another labour revenue raising exercise.

Not really, this has been discussed with other cities worldwide. It`s London who are sort piloting it. I don`t think politics comes into it.
 
I agree that kids seem to be travelling more and more by car. With 2 partially sighted parents there wasn't an option to be driven but the bus was perfectly adequate.
 
I think Middle-England parents may have been scared into a place where they think their kids are at danger if they don't ensure they are supervised every step of the way.

This is a fair tax in comparison to the Central London Congestion Charge or whatever it's called.
 
With all due respect Kathy, I don't think the Labour party needs to take any lectures off the tory party when it comes to a fair taxation system.

Most people remember the poll tax, and the regressive system that Thatch accentuated (regressive is an economic term term, not an opinion) and historians will point to the corn laws. Ironic that Adam Smith now occupies the flip side of our £20 notes!!!

Funnily enough I've just done something I said I'd never do. My local Councillor (Tory - not my fault folks!!!) but he's a decent sort who doesn't like the Tsarina of Finchley and regards her as having sewn a bad legacy, has been trapped at work in some of her, and his parties employment legislation (which Labour failed to repeal incidentally).

I agreed to represent him lay, I knew it was a won case, despite him kakking himself over his job. There's a fundamental difference between right and wrong. Suffice to say I won, and the Councillor concerned has now joined the Trade Union.

I dislike the horrible vehicles but as ever with Ken, then is grounded in spite

if 4x4's were the vehicles of choice of blacks and muslims, then there would be a 100% rebate on the charge

if jews and anglo saxon whites used nothing but pushbikes then those would have a £25 daily charge no doubt

Racist Ken can only see policy through that prism
