5 day festival

It’s already too watered down. It should be back to 3 days and for championship races. Not “oh what can we think of next, race”
Cheltenham are greedy. Very greedy. It’s all about money for them. We used to have seminars there and the National Point to Point Awards evening. I was talking the CEO for Point to Point and he said their charges are so exorbitant that it was unlikely we would ever use the course again.
They are ruining NH racing in my opinion. Making Cheltenham the-be-all-and-end-all for the season, so much so that British horses are wrapped up in cotton wool “so they make Cheltenham!” Wrong!

With the ever increasing stature of the Dublin Racing Festival this could really be the final nail in the coffin for Cheltenham. And they have no one to blame but themselves.

Absolutely agree, jinny. Have a mid season festival, by all means, with plenty of options to choose from, but reserve the finale to a championship three day special.

I reckon the only people in favour of a 5-day festival are the ones that work in the on-course managerial suite (assuming there is one).

No no no. The game needs a good mares programme. The one thing they mustn't do is add a frigging 2m4 hurdle. There isn't enough good hurdlers.

Set to he announced after this years festival, apparently.

Absolute shite

Absolute joke if it happens.

As has been said many times, there aren't the races to support a 5-day Festival, without turning it into an absolute tin-pot shadow of the meeting it once was.

I will not renew my Cheltenham membership if this comes to pass - not that the racecourse will give much of a toss about that, I suspect. Their motivation seems to be all about putting on another opportunity to get day-trippers through the door spending money on booze and food, and who gives a sh*it about the quality of the racing.

At this rate, they are going to kill the goose that provides the golden eggs. I for one, will fu*ck off to the DRF instead, and stay at home to watch to Cheltenham on the bowl.

Inevitable it was gonna happen

Uttoxeter won't be happy, they'll have to move the Midlands national to the Sunday or the Saturday before Cheltenham

Gold cup on a Saturday is an inevitability as well, they'll keep it on a Friday for a couple of years before moving it

Dread to think what the ticket prices will be

I've been trying to buy a property in the area: prices have gone up in my price range ( which isn't great) by £30k in the last 6 months and I now can't get anything.
5 days is way too much. £100 now for Club on the Thursday, and I only paid that because the Tatts ticket at £70 would mean not being able to walk on the right handside ( looking out to the course) so I could at least follow SM out if he gets there and still be able to get back to the paddock without having to go the scenic route. On other meetings I like to stand on the rail where it narrows on the run to the line; no chance of getting anywhere near the rail on the grass , and it's so badly graduated as a short arse I can't see anyway over people's heads. And they don't have the screen on the far side, which I don't understand, they have it there every other meeting. Why they take it down so only one is at the top of the course where they pull up, and if the sun's out, you're blinded.
Then to 'add insult to injury' as it were the course have said if he runs, I can have complimentary tickets anyway but they took so long to come back to me, I was scared it was going to sell out and I'd have nothing. Really couldn't afford the £100. :(

With Covid 19 causing worldwide havoc and maybe even moreso in the uk than in most countries people have a lot less to spend on entertainment and the hosts of racing premium showcase are out to recoup their losses anyway they can...so they will cream the festival for every penny they can and the public will have to pay and accept the change to ensure the greatest racing festival in the world continues...in short they got the racing public by the balls.

Awfull smell of bollocks around here again?

Your nose is too close to your ass you ignorant clown. You want to start another fight go ahead mate but leave me out of it I have no time for assholes with nothing to do but cause trouble...I have never said a bad word about you yet you stick your oar in...you are out to cause a fight go pick on someone who gives a fukc about your sorry ass comments

That's about the most naive unintellegent comment anyone could make. You really should try thinking and doing some research before you make such silly statements.

The meeting was first run over 160 years ago under the name of the Grand National Hunt Meeting at mostly at Warwick and occasionally Cheltehham.

At the turn of the centuary it was moved back and forward between Warwick and Cheltenham while construction was taking place and in 1911 it was moved permantly to Cheltenham.

The Cheltenham Fistival has been run there every year racing has been possible ever since. It attracts the best of Uk and Irish horses year after year and the Irish invasion of supporters is like an England Scotland football match combined

The Dublin Festival attracted the grand total of 2 English horses and somewhere in your mind you see it as a threat to Cheltenham.

Cheltenham will be hosting the festival long after we are all dead and buried it has been run there for 110 years and the chances of the venue changing from this unique course being run is somewhere between o and ziltch.

On the subject of the festival I understand that with GCHQ being #1 on Ivan's target list that the UK Gov't are considering a complete cancellation of this years meeting given the prevailing geopolitical uncertainties. Anybody hear anything?

Probably stems from an atrticle in the Gaurdian calling Cheltenham a virus dispersion hub.

To be honest I think it's too late in the day with 20% of Irishmen and brits having paiod for hotels hotels travell arrangements etc.

Entries been announced and trainers making all sort of plans and some uppercrust owners and donators they dare not cross intending to run their horses.

Dare they even think about cancelling now? I think not

Only the rumble of American B52 bombers flying over Cheltenham ater leaving RAF Fairford on a "practice mission"

They won't do a thing except sanctions which will put the price of filling your car up through the roof.

Not much chance of the Ruskies bombing the Guinness Grandstand:lol:

Lee Mottershead pouring cold water on the idea in the Post yesterday I see.

It must be a matter for the BHA - they should just say no .

Unless they put all the crap races on the Saturday .... X Country, Martin Pipe, Mares Chase, Mares Novice Hurdle. the old 2m 4f novice handicap and whatever the new race could be ....the Mares Veterans Handicap Hurdle I imagine ...
