The first two saturdays in January must be just about the most boring of the year - the Lanzarote Hurdle yawn, the Warwick classic chase snore and the Tolworth and a 3m chase last week that even beefed up by Levy Board cash was boring in the extreme .

Surely these two Saturdays need an injection of excitement ? Shame Sandown let the Anthony Mildmay Peter Cazalet Memorial go to the wall like all its other top staying chases - the Gallaher Gold Cup long history, the Gainsborough ( which Dessie warmed up for Cheltenham in ) now a ropey handicap and even the Whitbread now a joke of a race compared to its past

Roll on Cheltenham trials day .

I think we could brighten them up with a topless ladies' hurdle, a take-your-own-line cross-country chase, a hunter chase with two packs of hounds included, and a bareback Bumper. Now, come on, Racing for Change, let's see some imagination!
