A Lester interview as he approaches 80...

I loved this

It has been said, even by the Queen and Peter O’Sullevan, an arch Piggott supporter and the majestic race commentator who died earlier this year, that the jockey paid back the tax man from a bank account he had never previously declared. “Oh, that’s rubbish,” Piggott insists. “Really. It is. Who would do that?”

Piggott did something more unbelievable. Twelve days after walking out of prison, at the age of 54, he won the 1990 Breeders’ Cup in the US on a horse called Royal Academy. Piggott grins when I say it resembles a movie. “Or a fairytale. It was great, wasn’t it? I was lucky to get the chance. When I came out I had no idea I would be riding him.”

The queen talks rubbish and 12 days out of jail he's back in paradise:lol:

Released from prison in '88 and rode that winner two years later within twelve days of resuming his career as a jockey

If I recall correctly he resumed at Chepstown on a Monday-rode 4 or 5 winners for MVOB at The Curragh on the Wednesday -Breeders Cup was Saturday of the following week

Yes Luke.
his comeback ride at Leicester on monday was beaten a short head; he rode a double on Tuesday including Nicholas for his wife, won a two year old maiden winner for Barry Hills on Thursday or Friday at Newmarket Dewhurst/Champion Stakes meeting then went to The Curragh the following week for four timer.
