OK, it's not like a child starting school or uttering a first word, but Barney has always been a bit of a girl when it comes to being brave.

Since he had his sore paws I have been taking him to places where there was alot of grass to walk on. I chose Virginia Water which just happens to have a massive lake. We were walking him round it today and saw a young couple (the chap looked like a right bruiser to be honest) with their dog who was in and out of the water with a small ball.

Well to cut a long story short we all started chatting (as you do when you have dogs), and Barney decided to join in and after about 10 attempts, he managed to retrieve a small ball by swimming in the lake, and absolutely loved it. We then couldn't get him out. :what: The chap who looked abit unsavoury was absolutely delightful and was so patient and kind with Barney. What do they say about books and covers?

As the fella and his girlfriend walked off she said to him how proud she was of him, and how pleased she had dragged him out of bed and out for the walk today.

A great start to my day!

Good for Barney! I walked several dogs, resident and visiting, here in Eastbury this week, where the River Lambourn is now flowing freely, but is very high and moving very fast.

Am jockey Zoe Lilly's labrador Lucy decided to go for a swim down the river and when I cleed her couldn;t swim back up! - had to run to the yard and getr help to get her back out [wshe was still swimming looking happy as Larry when we got back, but had made no headway

Meanwhile where I'm house-sitting, Becca the Rottie and her sidekcik Pumpkin [heinz 57] don't like the rain, so we are sitting here in the kitchen watching the river rise under the window whilst it tips down outside...
