Are speeding fines sent out by registered post in Ireland? If one happened to miss the delivery of a surprise registered letter would one be wise to ignore it or go to the post office to collect it?

Not sure Mel, but if I recall my legal studies a hundred years ago there is precedent law indicating that the posting of a letter indicates that 'acceptance' has been indicated and that receipt of the letter was not consequental.

I imagine that this is the case here. If we are to rely on the postal system here commerce and national administration would crumble.

What did you do? Did you bang a badger or a baby on a bendy backroad?

I'm not aware of having been caught, but I drive the strip of road between Fosters Avenue and RTE regularly which pretty much equates to an offence in itself.

Oops. I have been done twice for turning left off Nutley Lane (coming from N11) during the time you are not supposed to. Be careful there too. I avoid the problem that you have by heading over the UCD exit strip.

I have seen people being done for that too. If you go up the slip road (unless driving a bus or taxi), you are supposed to turn either right or left at the entrance to UCD. I'm not sure the road signs fully convey this, so you'd probably have your day in court, but I have seen our leather clad friends zooming after people who have tried it, as if they were suspects in a mass murdering frenzy.
