Barry Connell has retired from racing riding. Bumpers in the UK and Ireland will be lesser affairs with his absence. Fabulous from the front it was often commented that perhaps only Steve Cauthen was his peer making the pace. His finest moment and arguably one of the finest pieces of racing riding came on the 2nd March 2009 at Stratford on Frascatti Park. Those of us who had ploughed into the opening 6/4 will never forget it.

Everybody loves to laugh at Barry, but he's had some days out with his horses that some us of never will. Riding your own winner at Cheltenham anyone? Good luck to Barry and happy retirement.

He was untidy, but as DJ says, riding your own winner at Cheltenham is pretty much the top of anyone's Christmas tree. Indeed, good luck, and happy days.

He was in my local gym last week. Thought he was on the road back after a shoulder injury.

I just looked and he had a decent strike rate but I must admit I saw the name when he was training but couldn't name one horse he trained

Ah Just read he owned Our Conor
