Away In A Manger makes me blub, reminds me of kids nativity plays. Emilys play is on Thursday and she's been practising the songs she'll sing. I've managed to persuade her that Once In Royal Davids City does not begin with 'Wantage royal Davids city...'

Not a great fan of traditional carols but, on Classic FM, this week I caught sound of 'Candlelight Carol' (John Rutter) this has to be one of the most beautiful I've ever heard.

Well, that's one place where he's not banned! Perhaps he could re-train as a racing camel rider - now that Winter's here, there's a high demand!

Now, now, we're straying off-topic, and you know what'll happen. I'll have to delete you. But that was good.

Perhaps he could appear in the festive Coke ads?

In The Bleak Midwinter and teh Drummer Boy one.(not the "come they told me - par rum pa pa pum..." one - thought I like that too - the one I mean is quite new, and is a carol...)

O Holy Night is pretty beautiful when sang well.
Yes a good one - by Adolphe Adam who wrote the music for Giselle and the odd opera or two

Still The Night. It has to be Still The Night though and not Silent Night.

I also like Ding Dong Merrily On High. Glo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-oria!! Very good for drunken screeching! :D

There is no carol safe for human hearing if I sing, so I prefer to hear them gently and warmly crooned by the likes of Dino Martino, while slumped on a sofa with something very alcoholic to hand. :)

Isn't that O Holy Night ???

No, Still the Night goes:

Still the night, Holy the night,
Sleeps the world, hid from sight,
Mary and Joseph in stable bare,
Watch o'er the child, beloved and fair,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

O Holy Night:

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

However, after googling both songs it would appear that Hanson did a mix version of both of them. :what:

Yes they are the same song but for some reason I much prefer it being translated to Still The Night rather than Silent Night.

I always liked Good King Wenceslas when I was younger. It was the only one I could play on my recorder.....
