THE oft-divided BHA and Turf Club jumps handicappers have announced increased harmonisation over the weight-for-age scale used in Britain and Ireland.
To the surprise of most present at Monday's press conference for the Anglo-Irish Jumps Awards, including BHA director of racing Ruth Quinn, Ireland's senior jumps handicapper Noel O'Brien said that he will be using a new weight-for-age scale from "September or October".
Just as significantly, he will be amending the modus operandi he currently employs and implementing it more along the lines of his opposite numbers at the BHA.
BHA head of handicapping Phil Smith welcomed the news, but warned that there would be a "time lag" before the two systems were compatible.
