Various events and uncertainities led to a couple of friends and I not making our usual arrangements for accommodation at the Festival.

Whilst I can search on the net, quality/suitability/availabilty are somewhat suspect at this late stage. So any help would be appreciated.

We have stayed at a number of places over three decades ranging from the Queens, house rental, pubs and to B&B. Generally we have been fortunate but as always some have been better than others. The 3 of us that are going this year are all professionals past the the first flush of youth (and several other things) but are pretty responsible despite over indulging in food, drink and gambling.

The nearer the course the better but most options would be considered.

I have some friends in Cheltenham and a few of their mates put some of my members up when Raise The Beat ran. Can find out if they have space. Need to know number of nights and price expectation. Presume the three want to stay together.....separate rooms, twins etc?

(no funny remarks on the last line please!!)

PM'd you, TS - though reading this again, I don't reckon he could accommodate three. It's doable, but would likely be 'cosier' than you all might like. :D

Bristol's Travelodge does rooms at £29 night and is only 40 minutes away from Cheltenham; day return ticket for £9.

That's what I'm doing.

We stayed at a lovely B&B called Hillside, in a village called Hazleton when we were up there a few years back (mind you, the ROR paid for it,so couldnt tell you how much the "special rates for Gold Cup week" are... !!) she could be worth a go, can completely recommend it there, its wonderful and the lady and her husband are so lovely its just not true.

Team TH, need your help.

My policy is to book hotel at last minute. I would like to say it is because the best deals are found this way, but in reality it is because I am a disorganised b*srtard. I am staying 1 night, Tues, and attending racing tues/weds.

I have options for hotels in Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Dumbleton, Great Malvern, Evesham and need to pull the trigger lest they fill.

My habit is to fly in Tuesday, races, drinks & dinner in town after, get to hotel midnight, sleep, wake, shower, eat, races, home. I would prefer somewhere there would be some racing buzz, taxi fare minimised. Can any locals offer a view/recommendation in exchange for my love and gratitude?

I received a number of helpful leads/offers from members which were much appreciated and I have taken a very reasonable B&B offer arranged by the friend of a member. Being 5-10 mins easy walk from the course it certainly met my location criteria and being the only guests in a large house we have also been able to accommodate a number of friends coming for only some days.

Frankly "I have taken up" is an inaccurate description, I stumbled and stuttered a number of times, rechecked and grasped the offer whilst doing a mental jig. It seems to be my absolute ideal and something I have been looking for since starting at the Alverton Gold Cup meeting. The proof of the pudding is in the eating but this looks even better than my Mum's blackberry and apple crumble.

Thanks to those who offered to help.

After living in denial for around 355 days, my resolution has cracked and I will now be travelling down for Gold Cup day.

Hurrah!
