I am shortly, next week, about to revert to full time work in the Bristol area. Since I live in Essex I will need to find accommodation within a commutable distance. I am initially looking for a temporary abode on Sunday night-Thursday night basis as I anticipate a six month contract becoming a much longer term position. In the event of the expected extension of employment I will probably seek to buy or rent a second home in an area up to 90 mins commute to Bristol and most likely to the North or East of the city.
Though I will start off staying in a hotel I would much prefer being in a B&B or becoming a lodger in a small town or village. The job entails a
fair amount of travel and long hours therefore I am looking for a comfortable stress-free base with no hassle (but definitely good broadband access).
I can of course use the internet to research but would appreciate any useful contacts, offers or constructive suggestions from those in that area.
Thanks in advance.

Can't offer you any help, TS, but wish you a very successful and enjoyable contract, and hope that it works into something longer for you. I have friends who live in Horton, where the husband commutes to Brizzle, so I'll ask if they know anything useful.

Lots of people are renting before they buy, if you are not sure that's the best thing to do, can you fly there, I can see driving from the wrong side of London would be bad if your only staying the odd, night to start with, you can get a good discount with Premier In,s by early booking on line, nice and clean in the places I'v used as well,

I had doubts about starting this thread but the helpful responses I have received to it and to an identical posting on FF have been very promising. A long shot seems to have a good chance of coming in!

At a time when it is easy to feel negative for many reasons the willingness of people, who know no more about me than can be gleaned from my postings, to go out of their way to be helpful is definitely uplifting. Whilst I will reply individually it is something that other members should be aware of.
Thanks!

To Trackside.
I have the great good fortune to be given the opportunity to work with a group of people whom I both like and respect. Although a man of limited talents what I can do I can do rather well and the task I have been given is well within my capabilities. Should I be successful then I will create a permanent position for myself and hopefully a growing number of others. In return in addition to immense job satisfaction I would expect to receive compensation sufficient to service a mortgage on a small property in the area which can be my base whilst working without having to uproot my family from the home that my wife and I worked so hard over a combined period of 60years to acquire.
