I have been working on a new banner for my 'lil old web-site and would appreciate it if a couple of the more 'artistic' among you could give me your opinions on the following...

Banner 1,

The first one I came up with but thought it an insult to be missing Istabraqs bonny head. The horse opposite is Kalanisi and the view of the Beverley paddock is one of my own pics.

Banner 2,

So in an effort to give Istabraq the respect he deserves, I altered the banner like so. Thing is, I had to include a little patch of blue sky above C Swans hand and the shaded patch at the bottom left hand side of the paddock is more noticable.

Please dont tell me just to get rid of both... :(

Both excellent, but I prefer the 2nd one ! B)
I agree 2nd one looks best. ;) [/b][/quote]
YEP AGREE.................

Definitely like the second one.

However do you have Photoshop? As you could easily clone stamp the patch of blue sky to make it the same colour as the rest. Not saying that it's a big deal, but it may make the images blend in together more easily.

Lovely shot of the parade ring by the way!

Better, definitely, though Charlie's 'V' sign's nearly gone, trig!

Caj, for what it's worth - not a lot! - I'd only say that if you have a good shot of Isty racing over a hurdle, and coming in from the left - so he looks like he's headed towards the parade ring - this would balance the effect of the 'incoming' KALANISI pic, and draw the viewer's eye in more towards the words YEW TREE RACING. In other words, you have a horse on the left drawing your eye to the web address, and a horse on the right doing the same. It's only psychological, but when you get, in a smallish space, things going in opposing directions, it can look a bit jumbled.

Alternatively, another horse head-on, as Isty is now, on the right, would also balance the effect more.

In other words, with horses either coming 'in' left and right, or both head-on, they'll form a symmetrical 'frame' for your main eye-catcher - your business name.

Look forward to seeing it up on here in due course. :)

Cheers for the advice folks, really appreciated :)

Trig, I will upload the edited banner to Yew Tree if its ok?

Kri, I know what you mean about a pic of Isty clearing a hurdle but the only ones I could find were paintings and they didnt really look right with the pic if Kalanisi being an actual photo. Will keep looking though...

Don;t know if you have seen these Carl, the last one is on my desktop and is also my MSN Messenger image

If your Yew Tree Racing website thingy is to publicise something or other, then you must be careful about using photographs. The photographs offered to you of Istabraq will have been taken by a professional. If you use photographs without the permission of the photographer in order to decorate or publicise your own venture then you may be breaching their copyright.

The bottom one is fabulous (if you're allowed to use it, Caj) and would match up better with the KALANISI shot. Once you pose them galloping 'into' your heading, either side, I think you'll see they highlight it better. The eye tends to look at it as a whole scene then, and the effect is smoother. Good luck!

How about this then...

Had to condense the writing a little and that blasted blue sky has wormed its way back in but I think it does look less jumbled.

Lovely - YEW TREE RACING is really highlighted and the horses appear to be presenting it, whereas before the lay-out tended to take the eye away from it, towards Isty. I think it looks much better compressed a bit. I don't think anyone will even notice the blue sky, Caj. Looks a proper job, it do. :D

Entirely my pleasure, Caj. Now, let's see - that's a £5,000 consultation fee, lunch, travel from my sofa to the pc and back - oh, let's call it a straight £7K, shall we? :D

Don't forget to put the polished article up as your signature line, will you? We want to see it!

I have a feeling the copywrite owner of the Istabraq pic might have a similar figure in mind...
