Alan Morgan

He was a founder member of the site, who was also a moderator. He was always working behind the scenes to attract more members, setting up inter forum competitions etc.

He was also a good friend to some people on here who had met him in real life.

Sure others can explain in more detail :)

Just found this thread Aldaniti and it's very hard to put into words what Alan was to this place . I had never participated in an internet forum prior to seeing Alan on atr and when I did check the place out he couldn't have been more encouraging . He was a great friend to alot of us here and a great wit . The banter on here was mighty when he was alive . Something I'd look forward too after a crap day in the office . He brought everyone together and was chief negotiater in difussing some famous rucks . Only he could have coped as well and sailed through with a smile . Absolute gent and much missed

I do agree with every word that Solerina has said, he was the star of this forum and greatly missed. We attended his funeral in East London in attendance was Brian H...P D J...Steve Millar...Laurence...Merlin...Terry, i have probaly forgotten somebody of the list. After the Funeral we made our way to the Cardigan Arms in Bow. There was a excellent turn out at Lingfield Park we then met many members of this forum including Solerina, also Alans family. Very well organised by Brian H and Jon.

Regards.

Terry.

That’s correct I fully endorse Solerina words! (hope your feeling better by the way!!) I personally never met ALAN but he was the type of guy you would take to and we together had many a debate against others on here as our outlooks on life seemed to be very similar indeed. He always had a good word for most members and has already stated was the referee to most rows on here, and was also a promoter of T- H and he arranged many a tipping challenge against other horse racing sites on the web too.

Terry Knight who now plys his trade mostly on F-F named this site T-H but Alan was the main man and spent endless hours promoting this site and adding his banter too...

He did on several occasions go head to head against Mat Doyle on ATR in a tipping challenge, but I knew him like a few more on here did from CH4 racing website (now defunct)

It came as a sudden shock to us all, his passing, and my brother The Cardiffian, and I travelled by car to firstly meet Laurence, aka T-S and Paul, aka PDJ outside West Ham underground, to attend the funeral service where we met up with, Brian H, Steve M, for the very first time, (it was a freezing day by the way) to see our mate off and pay our respects to both Alan, his wife, and his family and to no doubt try and lessen the burden and the grief one suffers at this loss and tragic time.

After the funeral service we went to the Cardigan Arms, in Bow where one of the best foods spreads that I have ever seen! (Someone was heard to say it’s as good as Royal Ascot food) so you can imagine what it was like! suffice to say I had to abstain as I was suffering from a tummy bug from the early hours of this day, so no beer and no food I was gutted not to have had some of the food and drink, but I had to also drive back to Cardiff as well later.

Somebody suggested we have a day out @ Lingfield Park as a memorial to Alan and a race was named after him, and some very fine work was done by the organisers to make this day come to fruition.

Brian. Ardross, and Krizon, organised the food and a box etc etc etc for the people who wanted to attend it was attended by Alan’s family as well and Solerina flew in from Belfast to attend the days racing and pay her respects as well, so one can only say what a brilliant effort was made by all! Ardross Sheffield, Dave G Liverpool, and Archie Cheshire, Ray H and Steve H from Bristol, Jules from near Wellington? and my brother and I from Cardiff, plus the many that were deemed as being local.

In attendance were Ray H and son Steve H and Trigger from the Final Furlong site

Along with the organisers above (lets see if my memory is still functioning?)

Stodge, Kathy, Terry, Jules, Laurence and son and heir ( Laurence paid for a lot of the drinks putting monies over the bar to pay for it, this was a real nice gesture and both Brian and Ardross supplied the champagne which was also a really nice gesture too. Right on with the names in attendance, Kirsty, HunneyB Dave G, Archie,Arkwright, Steve M.

Alan’s ashes were spread along the winning line by his family on the grass track section! And a comment was said by someone!! That it’s the only winner he ever had at his beloved Lingfield Park, or words to that effect which brought laughter from those in attendance.

Alan was the holder of a GONG for his endless work for the NSPCC, and the monies left over from the monies donated by the three forums was donated towards the building of a club for youngsters in the church area where the officiating female vicar who carried out the service came from.

I have possibly missed a few things!out But if I have left anybody out! Well please accept my apologies.

I hope this gives you an insight to who Alan Morgan was! And his tireless work for the many people he befriended although suffering a heart condition himself.

Below is the race and result, that the members from T-H, F-F, T R F, sponsored in the name of the late Alan Morgan .

Interesting to see that FEAST OF ROMANCE and HARD TO CATCH are still going strong!
And Zafarshah too, an old favourite of mine.

I've found a couple of pics of the day.

Firstly, the lineup at the post for the ashes-scattering.

RAY H as posted these so I copied them just now from F-F with his approval of course.....

Perhaps someone would like to identify all the members of the villainous-looking crew at the ashes-scattering.

From the left TRIG, STEVE H, RAY H, STODGE, LAURENCE, ARKWRIGHT, ME, BRIAN, ARCHIE, ALAN'S WIFE, KRIZON, STEVE M, LAURENCE'S SON,ALAN'S 2ND OLDEST DAUGHTER, THE CARDIFFIAN,JINNY J. ALANS ELDEST DAUGHTERS FIANCEE,
I think the one hiding is DAVE G behind ARCHIE Solerina or and Kathy took the photo's I should imagine.............Julie must have nipped home fast to feed her cows etc.................Terry knight is missing too.........

If I recall it was Steve Crawford who was assistant to Jamie Osborne at the time who received the trophy for the winner Spindor.
He went onto win the bumper at Aintree last year on The Cool Guy for Nigel Twiston Davies.
On announcing duties would be Milton Johns who is still doing the honours at Lingers.

Ditto moi - hiding behind someone at the back! Saved you all!
Quantum Leap still going - won best turned out that day - Solerina and I picked him out.
I never met Alan but he was unbelievable in his support and help on here. Many a time he helped a numpty techno phobe (that's me) with all sorts of silly questions. In the middle of a thread of ranting you could always rely on him to come in and diffuse it with something quite hysterical. We had arranged for him to come to the stud to see the stallions 5 days before he died, but he said he had a chest cold and didn't think it would be wise to come, but would re-arrange another time. (Joking that women would accuse him of having a 'sniffle' whereas a man would think it was pneumonia!) I was so upset I never got the chance to meet him.

I was with Alan at Newbury which was, I thnk, his last day's racing. I'm not sure that any photos exist but he only ever appeared on ATR once - as opposed to being on the phone almost daily. When the phone lines were slow they would phone him up and ask him to call in!

Alan kept it quiet but he was awarded the OBE for services to children's safety.

Oh I see I thought perhaps he was a reg on there!

I know everyone has their alotted time on this earth but it just doesn't seem fair when the good ones are taken early :( & we get left people like Brady/Sutchcliff for all eternity

I think I remember Alan talking about that day, Brian. Was that when Looks Like Trouble ran in a charity flat race and you both lumped on at an absurd price?

Yes, the charity race was after the last and Brendan Powell rode Looks Like Trouble. The description "lumped on" doesn't apply though - not many bookmakers priced the race up and those that did weren't going to take too big a bet. At the price of 4/1 I would have had as much as I could get - I was allowed £200 and Alan had £25.
