Its two years since that sad day, it’s just flown by hasn't it! since that tragic day that ALAN PASSED AWAY.... and I feel that I should post a thread with regards it, and the other members who attended the church service in London.(Brian H, Steve Miller, Tout Seul, PDJ, The Cardiffian, and myself).... and the great memorial race day @ LINGFIELD PARK attended by many from this forum and Alans family, organised by BRIAN H & ARDROSS & KRIZON ....

I hope his wife and children are doing really well!! Since their great loss..............and I send my best wishes and best regards to them all.....

R.I.P. mate

P.S. For new incumbents who were not registered then, You can read more about it in the FORUM GOLD THREADS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOME PAGE..................

If you wish to add your comments to this thread? well please do ................

I might give his favourite cheese and apple sandwiches a miss though let alone his Jim Davidson videos :D

Much missed still

2 years and 2 months since he and brother Dennis visited Plumpton, and Alan and I posed for the camera. Wonderful to see him then, as previously, and of course we all expressed the hope to meet up again soon. That never happened, but it was a pleasure to meet his lovely family, if under the saddest of circumstances.

Lingfield Car Park sends you its best wishes, Alan! ;)

Crikey, two years has gone fast. At least this year Alan will be right - Rooster Booster doesn't have much chance of winning the Champion! :shy:

Spooky. I was thinking of Alan earlier this evening. Six months or so before he died, I confided in him about something of serious concern to me at the time and I wanted him to know things have eventually turned out very much for the better. He'll know what I mean and if he reads this he can have a cigar on me!

Yes poor Nick too easily forgotten and the man who started the One Alone bandwagon rolling and the Realistic Racing partnership .

I met Nick at Ascot. I think of him every time I see Fantasy Believer's name in the press or on TV.

Yes I remember seeing him full of life in the paddock when FB ran fourth to Border Subject in 2002 - 12 months later he was dead and so unexpectedly acute Pancreatitis . Spoke to him on the phone after Ellie was bought at the Doncaster sales but never met him in real life.

I only knew both of them via this forum. I didn't know Nick that well, but had alot of respect for him.

Alan really grew on me over time as his sense of humour often had me in stitches. A very funny man. He sent me some private PM's and e-mails about some of the problems I initially had on here. He went up tenfold in my estimation. He was a thoroughly nice chap and a real legend on this forum. He will always be missed.

Alan was such a laugh, I never met him but I have three main memories of him.
One was the way he used to visit Final Furlong and try to get some serious banter going between the two forums. If he didn't think there was enough friendly rivalry going on, he would send me a private message to get on over here and start winding you all up, he seemed to love all that.
Another fond memory was when he was telling a few of us a story in the chatroom, it was a while ago now and it took him half an hour to tell the story. I wish I could remember the details but it was something to do with the Corona drinks lorry, I do remember being in fits of laughter though. Maybe Trig can remember it, he was in there too at the time.
My final memory of Alan was how he used to phone up Attheraces every morning.
They used to have viewers phone the show, and it was a very rare occurence if Alan didn't come on the line at some stage in the show. And of course he actually appeared on the show one time.

Hard to believe it's 2 years since he left us all.

Funnily enough, I reached for a piece of scrap paper yesterday on which to make some golf betting notes for this week and I saw that it was the list of all those who went to Alan's race day at Lingfield!

He hated golf - but he liked betting...

For the benefit of newbies who don't know:

Our dear departed forumite, Nick Hagan and his wife Frances, along with their two hilarious and very intelligent young daughters, invited me a couple of times to join them at Goodwood, where the champagne flowed and laughter filled the day. Nick actually asked if I'd go down with him to Trickledown Stud (Paul Thorman, who is currently entrusted with foaling BARRANTES for Songsheet and me - a new arrival is hopefully due soonish!) to look at ONE ALONE for the Realistic Racing partnership he was forming. He was so looking forward to making running racing syndicates his life, and this was his beginning venture. I told him I'd never looked over a yearling before, and unless she had five legs or two heads, I couldn't tell him much from what I'd be looking at. But the mad fool insisted I look at her anyway!

I last saw Nick at Lingfield, in company of other forumites, where we all parted on the warmest of terms and looked forward to meeting up again soon. Only a couple of days later, he was rushed to hospital to fight for his life - it was entirely out of the blue, and his death a few weeks later stunned everyone. The funeral was a solemn yet also friendly affair, with the chance to meet more of the family afterwards.

Nick and his family were brilliant, generous, and fun company. He and Frances were a couple so in tune with each other, that the shock of his unexpected loss is not yet gone. Frances and the 'girls' continue to live in Bury St Edmunds and are doing well. We exchanged Christmas cards and Frances has a standing invitation to stay with me whenever she feels she wants a break.

I never met Alan in person but it is incredible to think that it is 2 years since he passed away . This was the first forum that I had ever joined and if it were'nt for Alan giving the web address on atr I wouldn't have been here. Some would say that's a positive :P
For anyone who joined later he was the sort of person who involved everyone and always loved a debate . He encouraged the newer members to post and he was wholely responsible for my taking part in the forum . He was a good person and although he went away he left a legacy here and more importantly two fantastic daughters and a wonderfull family. I was very priviledged to meet them at the memorial service and I want to let them know that we're thinking about them .I lost my own dad last xmas and my heart goes out to them .

Two years ago today was the funeral. I was in France and remember sitting watching the sun creep down on a cold February day .

Seems so long ago yet like yesterday :(
