The world's first floodlit all-weather jumps track will be built in Ireland if a planning application gets the go ahead early next year.

On the day they were named as Ireland's Racecourse of the Year for 2013, officials at Dundalk have confirmed plans for a multi-million pound revolutionary jump circuit, complete with undersoil heating, which could stage racing in 2016.

interesting, I assume they have come up with a better racing surface than the last ill-fated try of all weather jumping

I assume it will be Hurdles only and after the first 10 deaths they'll knock it on the head again. Stupid "idea"

Do they make it work anywhere else in the world? (By 'work' I mean with a fatality rate not significantly higher than equivalent turf races.)

Is it not going to be a turf surface? With under soil heating to make it 'all weather' - the turf would be on the 2 straights with the jumps on and the bends on the all weather surface.

Very true!

I remember watching something on the tv, it may of been ch 4 racing but they did a slow motion video of a horse going over a fence & landing, when the horse landed on one foot the foot actually slid forward a few centimetres & they said it was this that was the problem, the all weather surface didn't allow this which resulted in more falls, of course they may have been talking total bo**ocks
