I receieved a phone call from a kitchen company. Apparently they want to take before and after shots of my kitchen after installing their new kitchen. This is at no cost to me and I will not then become a "show home" with other people coming to see it.

Now, I really distrust people like this but as far as I can tell the deal is this

1) They send a rep round to see if my house is suitable
2) If so, photos are taken of the kitchen "before"
3) A new kitchen is installed for FREE (?????)
4) Some more photos are taken and published in their brochure

and erm, that's it.

What am I missing??

I'll take that as a "YES YOU ARE BEING STUPID!!"

Thought so but I just can't see why. I have said no by the way, just curious.

They do it with other things like double glazing and building cladding too. The salesman comes round and shows you all the wonders that you can have and you are delighted. Later he gets in touch with bad news and good news. The bad news is that the marketing department has gone to print early with the brochure, so sadly they won't be able to go through with the deal. The good news is that because they have let you down in this way he has been given permission by his Sales Director to offer you the beautiful kitchen of your dreams at a massively discounted price...

... or after installing the kitchen for free, he presents you with a bill of £12K for the units.

If you can't see the catch it doesn't mean there isn't one - there is, it just means you can't see it.

Just as I was reading this I got a call from some guy in HK wanting me to invest in some software they had developed for shipping ports around the world in response to the USA ant-terrorism rules. Where do they get my f*cking details from?

If you do ever need a kitchen, double glazing or whatever get as many established companies as possible round to give you a quote, sign nothing on the day and don't phone any of them back. Wait a few weeks and they'll phone you back saying they can do the job for xK less. Wait another few weeks and get their further 'reduced offers' and then pick the lowest one. It's a bloody shame for those people that pay those extortionate prices that are initially quoted.

No need for sarcasm Gear.

I am currently being inundated (well, 4 actually) with letters from "property developers" wanting to value the house and land I may have inherited. Where the hell did they get my home address from.

This guy once rang me from HSS asking would I like a free Kango hammer for a week.......

He owns my house now.
