Amendments to Rule 212 to be in force by Christmas and will treat non triers as four different levels.

The first will be a blatant stopping job, which will be a 90-day ban for the horse.

The second will be when the rider doesn't make a genuine, real, timely effort.

The third will punish horses running in a condition which precludes their chance of winning

The fourth will be for misjudged rides.

Veterinary information on the day will also be dealt with differently.

That is interesting...or some might say stupid. Where do they draw the line? Example,,,,,,,,God's Own beaten 6 times on the trot on Soft ground shouldn't run in the Desert Orchid because the ground is heavy and the odds are stacked against him acting on it?....Trainer decides to let him take is chance because the race has cut up badly, he finishes last and gets a fine for running him cos the Stewards say he doesn't go on the ground..........wtf is running the BHA these days anyway?

If the conditions do not include going but include trip that's a different story. SMP running 2 milers over 6f 3 times then stepping them up to 1m7f is totally unfair to the novice punter who hasn't learned these thing as of yet. Irt sickens them when they get no run for their money and turns them away from racing........those days should be long gone by now tbh

This being the only thing I hate about racing.

The standard punter should not be allowed to bet on a horse that has NOT been sent to win the race.

The fourth will be for misjudged rides.

Misjudged based on what? Stewards opinions who are sitting in a warm room somewhere? So if a jockey sits at the back of a field because he deems they are going too fast early on, but then starts to move up 3 hurdles out as horses in front of his horse start to tire, and he finishes second by a nose, that's going to be deemed to be misjudged? The appeal process is going to be busy.

I took that as meaning unfit/carrying obvious condition, or with an injury.

You're correct I misread it as conditions......

It's not all a nicety nicety out there it's a hard game to make money at and some trainers will go to any length to keep the sheckles coming in.

Hard to believe a trainer would send an injured horse racing but I have seen one do exactly that and the jockey, who was none too happy about the whole episode, either having the vet pull him out or he pulled him up after the first fence........can't remeber which as it was along time ago...............but I am sure similar things still go on in places

All this was done to fool an owner who was moaning about his horse not running and keep the sheckles coming in.

I would still like to see them do something about distance when it is so blatant.

I've seen the same thing Tanlic, and I'm pretty sure there was a high profile case a few years ago if anyone recalls it?

I'm sure we can name quite a few trainers who habitually school in public as well. It would be very difficult to prove though.

Jonjo would never do such a thing  He has sent out more horses needing the run than most and ain't that the truth but where do the stewards draw the line on schooling in public.

You get a juvenile or novice hurdle at Doncaster on a Thursday with 20 runners I will show you 15 horses not fit enough, too weak or too backward to win.

Not really having a go at Jonjo.....Some horses you could work at home for the entire season and the lazy sods who are much smarter than their riders won't do a tap more than they have to.

Those types always need a run and that in a sense is schooling in public.

Luckily the stewards are not as stupid as many people think and for the most part turn a blind eye unless it a blatant infringement of the rules

Of course there is Colin if you care to look we see horses given no chance right from the word go and stewards say nothing because they know the score.

As a matter of interest I just watched the novice hurdle at Warwick.

Without trying two things caught my eye.

1. RT Dunne had already made up his mind or knew his horse was useless or nowhere near ready to be competing.
a 66/1 he sets of 15 lengths behind the leader giving his moderate mount even less chance and never improves from there.
If that's giving a horse the best possible chance of winning I'm jack the lad

2. Unblinking never put into the race with a chance got a more than considerate ride. Finished 3rd and may have been pulled up by te stewards.

I am sure if I had another look there were others out there unfit for nothing more than a bit of experience. Happens every day and the stewards do nothing and rightly so.

By the way if they pulled up all the non triers in Irish bumper and these novice chases we see where Mullins runs some star they'd need to quadruple their staff :)

Stewards report from that Warwick race, no mention of any non triers

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Tom Cannon, the rider of the winner, TYRELL (IRE), from after jumping the last hurdle. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Cannon for 2 days as follows: Thursday 22 and Wednesday 28 December 2016.
The Stewards noted that FINAL CHOICE, trained by Warren Greatrex, would wear earplugs which would be removed at the start, and that SPADER (IRE), trained by Dan Skelton would wear earplugs.
Jack Quinlan, the rider of PORT PARADISE, which was pulled up, reported that his saddle slipped.

Two enquiries in later races into apparent improvement in form

1.55

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BRANDON HILL (IRE), ridden by Noel Fehily and trained by Tom Lacey, compared with its previous run at Uttoxeter on 12 November 2016 where the gelding finished sixth of thirteen, beaten 47 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding had benefited from its seasonal reappearance run which had followed a lengthy 675-day lay-off, and it had also appreciated getting an uncontested lead on this occasion. They ordered BRANDON HILL (IRE) to be routine tested.

2.30

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, SEAS OF GREEN, ridden by Ciaran Gethings and trained by Paul Cowley, compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 16 November 2016 where the mare finished ninth of ten, beaten 40 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the mare had benefited from its seasonal reappearance run and had appreciated the step up in trip from 2m to 2½ miles on this occasion. They ordered SEAS OF GREEN to be routine tested.

Not sure about recently but back in the mid 90s I remember one MC Pipe running a horse that had a recent leg injury in the Arkle. Predictably the poor horse broke down early on and was destroyed

Draborgie I think it's name was
