An Capall

He's had a tough, hard life, what with starting out as a boot-black at 3 years old, working his way to be head of slops in a local pub by 9, rising at 2 a.m. to put up the beer barrels, clean the floors, light the lamps, and cook breakfast for 20 navvies by the time he was 12 - he never went to school, and didn't learn to read and write until he was 25, all done by the light of a flickering candle in his tiny attic space.

Continuing to strive to be all that he could be, he arrived at age 35 having passed his driving test on the 17th attempt and working his very own mini-cab only 10 years later. Since then, he met the four-times widowed tree surgeon Elizabeth Borden, marrying her and taking on her 18 children at the same time. He has described the wedded years as 'Paradise on Earth', knowing that Lizzie was always behind him.

If anyone deserves to be wished well, especially after passing his Advanced IT Consultancy course through the Open University only last year, it's the gallant, care-worn, but always endlessly cheerful AC.

I've met him and he's never that age . You are all very naughty . Happy Birthday An !

AC, I promise that if I were your Mammy, I'd never have given up such an endearing, charming, witty, clever, hard-working and sensitive wee lad...

... oops, I've just looked at the birth certificate again. Well, son, it's like this...
