Interesting letter from an American correspondent in today's Arab News online:

It hasn't made the US papers, but the Bulgarian newspaper 'Novinite' has reported that the USA has leased two airbases in Bulgaria and one in Romania, and flown in attack jets: F15s and F16s and A10 tank busters. Meanwhile, Abdullah Gul, Foreign Minister of Turkey, has made the trip to the US this week, ostensibly to prevent Nancy Pelosi from introducing a resolution in Congress that would condemn Turkey for the genocide of the Armenians during the Second World War. Gul is supposed to meet with Cheney, Rice, and Stephen Hadley.

The Armenian resolution is a ploy to get Gul to the US so that the USA can pressure him into allowing overflights of Turkish air space so that all those jets in Bulgaria and Romania can attack Iran from the north.

While Congress fiddles and American news organisations focus on stupid tv shows, the Bush White House and the crazies are preparing to attack Iran.

---------------------------

Thought it was interesting and not without possibility. Sad to think that one has to constantly read for 'something completely different' about political visits' aims, especially when the Turkish/Armenian situation is itself highly charged and has already led to the opening of old wounds and violence. But I can see how the situation could be neatly combined, if not solely aimed, with the idea of gaining the use of Turkish air space for the reason the writer conjectures. Let's see what shakes out.

Small wonder that Russia, China and India are having a series of meetings to consider the Yanks' inappropriate military actions throughout the world.

I imagine USA will not be in war because of they dont have money to have another front open.

The Irans mandataries are doing everything possible for them to be attacked,
the situation of the UN is an absolute dissaster,
Russia and China position is very understandable, they dont worry about any other thing than their dictatorships and their economical interest, the position of Europe in general(GB excluded) is very sad.

Like it is now the world, I imagine most of the left winged people in the world would be against the yankees to come to Europe for the second war world in the 40s.

To think that countries like Iran and North Korea can be convinced with diplomatic talks about stopping thier nuclear programms is something even a 6 years child does not think.

If Europe,Rusia and China were on USA side in the UN, it would not be neccessary to have war like Iraq, because people in the rest of the world would know there are many things that can not be done.

I would be very suprised if they are going to attack Iran. Very suprised indeed given the mess they are in on a number of fronts at the moment

Not only that but the digusting president of Iran is struggling domestically.

Having said that, I would not have a problem with the destruction of a nuclear weapon facility (although they are said to be "years" away from this) in a country which has vowed to "wipe" another one "from the map"

I can only assume your imagination knows no bounds Suny.

And as regards your hypothetical 6 year old child, they're clearly better informed than you are. Last week an agreement on North Korea was reached (its much easier to deal with a politically dogmatic regime than a religious one) as the former tends to be pragmatic. A bit like Libya who are also a secular state, and who negotitated away their nuclear aspirations. I include the link for you

What happened
with Korea last week was pathetic
they were paid not to be bad boys........

Lets do the same with all the delincuents in the world and all the crimes will dissapear.

I know it is in fashion be antiyankee nowdays
but please let me think what I want and not what is politically correct.

Of course you can think what you please, Suny! However, if a discussion topic is posted and folk respond, then you shouldn't be surprised if your opinions are challenged. That's what 'forum' means....

And is it so wrong to offer a financial advantage for not promoting nuclear capabilities? Surely a better solution than the alternative....

The Americans had been offering financial incentives to North Korea "to build" two nuclear reactors for them Suny, long before they developed, yet alone tested any weapons. I seem to think they agreed to supply substantial finance for a civil programme and then, for what ever reason never honoured the agreement, leading in no small part to great a degree of frustration on Pyonyangs part, as they had an energy need, and their alleged partner wasn't coming up with goods, and at best procrastinating on the agreement, and at worst reneging on it.

When they subsequently discovered that they'd then been put on an 'axis of evil' they understandably got twitchy, and pursued an accelerated unilateral route, doubtless suspecting that the Americans had no sincere intentions of assisting them. Given the attending threat that being placed on the axis had, you really shouldn't be too surprised that developing a weapons capacity assumed primacy by way of priority.

As Songsheet says, this is an infinately cheaper and safer option to pursue then one that involves war in this instance.

Among those previoiusly given financial incentives by the USA (and tis is far from being a comprehensive list):

Osama bin Laden
Saddam Hussein
Pol Pot
Idi Amin
François "Papa Doc" Duvalier
Mobutu Sese Seko
Anastasio ("Tachito") Somoza Debayle
Augusto Pinochet
Ferdinand Marcos
Manuel Noriega

A massive majority of the people in the world would be very happy to have Franklin D Roosevelt in the White House

God bless the "land of the free and the home of the brave"

And if you're going to keep championing 43 Suny, and his policies, can ask you to consider referring to them as Americans and not yankees? They are different, and if you don't believe me, have a trip down to the deep South sometime and casually drop in to conversation that "you admire the yankees" and see what happens to you? :brows:

To be fair, Warbler, a lot of us call the Americans 'yanks', which is only an abbreviation for 'yankees' or 'yanquis', so most of us are at fault for that.

Although I've been able to recover this thread at home, I suspect something cycnical, as I was in the process of typing something else, only to discover I've been removed :brows: Can't access/ link broken etc :suspect:

Oh, not those blasted Black Ops people again, is it? I often wonder who's looking in on these discussions, and whether there's any truth in the theory that they can track where you live in order t

No I'm still snookered!!! 'Chit Chat' appears to be disabled..... only this thread remains to suggest it ever existed

Leave now. Take a taxi for ten miles north. Change to another taxi to go in entirely the opposite direction. Get dropped off at Didcot railway station. Buy a ticket to Coventry but take the train to Paddington. Take the third train on the District line to Acton Green. Change to the Piccadilly line and get to Heathrow. In Terminal 3 by the Tri Star limo service desk you'll see a man with a ginger moustache. He'll be weariing a Tranmere Rovers replica shirt. Approach him with the words "After all, tomorrow is another day." His correct response will be "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn." The emphasis must be on the word "give". He will hand over details of your new identity and a one-way Ryanair ticket to Dubrovnik.

Good luck and God speed.

You can't turn a mission down Colin!!! The moment you do, you become dispendable, or are ikely to be traded for another agent. Once in, you can't leave

Although the explanation in this case appears a bit more innocent. Basically, I'd saved the menu page 'to favourites'. With 'chit chat' disabled it wasn't automatically updated with 'non racing chat', and hence showed up as not existing, (all aprt from the last thread I used in the section - this one)

Brian -

I don't think this is the real Warbler, comrades. The real Warbler would've taken at least six paragraphs to detail his cyber problems. This man (?) is not to be trusted. Probably a plant acting on behalf of Mossad/MI5/CIA/Interpol/Chipping Sodbury Police Station. Code Red.

I guess Ahmedinajad has never seen the old film 'The Runaway Train'? Most Iranians will be thinking 'as long as we're not on board, you daft goat'!
