France: Frankie Dettori could become a more regular visitor to France thisyear after Andre Fabre revealed that he expects the Italian to ride the Sheikh Mohammed-owned horses he trains "on the big occasions."
Frankie Dettori: likely to be donning the maroon silks in France
Fabre has more than 100 Sheikh Mohammed-owned horses in his care this year as a result of a deal through which the Sheikh acquired Fabre's main yard last year and became his singlebiggest patron.
Fabre, who will still have a similar number of horse for other owners, will not have a stable jockey but he said the bulk of the rides will be shared between Johan Victoire, who rode 108 winners last year, and the up-and-coming Maxime Guyon, with Dettori involved on feature days.
Outlining his rider line-up for the season, Fabre said: "There is no retainer with Johan. It will be Maxime Guyon and Johan Victoire, while Stephane Pasquier will ridethe Khalid Abdullah horses.
"With the Sheikh Mohammed horses Victoire and Guyon will ride whatever horse fits them with Frankie coming on the big occasions, if there are some big occasions."
Born on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, Victoire has long been tipped to enter the top tier for French riders.
Having joined Fabre in 2001, he became France's champion apprentice that season and has topped the 100-winner mark in each of the last two seasons.
Last season, Victoire picked up his first Group 1 success on Kamsin in Germany's most prestigious race, the Grosser Preis von Baden. As well as Fabre, he will also ride for Alex Pantall this term.
