One of those days yesterday. Four trackers up, backed three of them - guess what won?

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin have three decent runners at Sandown, but Buick has gone to Chester for the one there - Military Order - which ought to mean he’s a good favourite, albeit odds-on. That’s not the one I’m mainly interested in, though, because Buick is also up on Fair Wind who is very well drawn and if he has learned to relax (or the Buick touch engineers it) he seems a good price @ 7/2.

Interested to see how Queen for You goes at Sandown. Havlin waxed lyrical about her after her debut run in May. She’s been very highly tried since, looking as though she’s not quite up to it. Down a little to Group3 today I think that may still be too much for her.

Caught seconditis.

Queen for You was best of the rest, but I think she’s always likely to run into one at this level. Love to see her down in grade a tad.

Didn’t seem any excuses for Fair Wind and needed Buick to be niggling at him a long way out. Might stay reasonably competitive at this level, but doesn’t look more than that at the moment.

I’m glad I was put off by the price on Military Order, it was a really dreadful run even after allowing for the yard being in the doldrums.

I think the Solario is probably a difficult one to sum up.Jason Weaver’s comment was very interesting when when he said that if Aablan could make it home when horses in the yard seemed so generally out of sorts he must be a lot better than he looked (or words to that effect). Also agreed with Megan Nicholls (hasn’t she improved) that, but for the tardy start Devil’s Point would have given the leading pair a lot more to do.

I often find myself agreeing with Jason (but then as I was his riding instructor when he was a kid, he’s obviously learnt his trade well!) but he’s right on this being better than it looked. The horse pulled hard on the way to post and also in the early part. I’d be half tempted to finish him for the season now and let him mature mentally.
