Anyone Been To Weymouth?dorset...

Several times.

Lovely area with Poole, Lyme Regis, Durdle Dor all easily accesible.

Any particular accommodation planned ?, We stayed at Warmwell, a holiday park about six miles from Weymouth (with ski slope included)

I think Trudij originates from those parts if memory serves me so perhaps she is the one to best advise.

:D Roger I was there yesterday went for a day trip, but I have covered the area in a working capacity too.........

The weather was brilliant and it was a nice day out (being 124 miles from here) I have a nice facial tan just walking about with a sea breeze obviously adding to the tan, I was surprised to see the ammount of people there yesterday obviously not deemed as a public holiday.......

I have stayed at Bournemouth for a week a few yrs back now, went to the Isle of Wight for a weekend last year and have been to Poole for a day trip too last year that is...........

The traffic yesterday evening going south on the M5 was horrendous from Taunton to Avonmouth so am glad we went down yesterday morning and we had a traffic free (relatively speaking) but met traffic on the A roads which is a norm from day to day in the area from YEOVIL down to Weymouth...............

the greyhound track at Poole is worth a visit, friendly family atmosphere at a healthy-looking stadium (i geuss because it is also home to elite league Poole Pirates speedway, which is also a great nite out) You get right up to the traps to watch loading etc.

I went to Weymouth and walked to Portland Bill ! But then I am faster than New Alco.

Chesil Beach was something I wanted to see.

Went to Lyme Regis and Chesil Beach a couple of years ago, and it was great. The great sweep of the pebbles is really fascinating, especially as they're all neatly graded by size by the sea! There's an unintentionally hilarious 'museum' in Lyme, with papier-mache dinosaurs - real Blue Peter stuff, but with some very nice fossils which one can buy.

The place is really Fossil City, but the main pub in town, which is also an inn and where we stayed (I've forgotten its name!) is very friendly. During the course of the evening, one of the regulars announced he was off to shoot a few bunnies. The chap I was with wondered if he'd bring him back a couple, which he duly did in exchange for a fiver, and we had delicious rabbit stew a few nights later! How despicably easily my stomach can overrule my heart!

I certainally do DG - and go all about as much as I can when Im home. Weymouth is where they are planning to hold the sailing events in teh olympics too - so if your hoping to holiday for then anyone - best book up now (or pal up with my parents - the train links from Poole to Weymouth are fab)

Its a nice area - as most of the Jurassic coast is. I miss home like mad sometimes!!
