AP will be leading jockey at the festival imo..The man is made of granite and will bounce back stronger than ever.
Ok if he bounces back, but does he not have to stay with his horses?

Can´t see it.

TONY McCOY has won his fitness fight to return to race-riding in time for the Cheltenham Festival.

McCoy received a positive verdict on his recovery from a back injury from his own surgeon last week and has been given clearance from the British Horseracing Authority chief medical officer, Dr Michael Turner, to return to action as early as tomorrow.

"He is passed fit to ride from Saturday if he so wishes to do so," said Dr Turner.

However, Dr Turner asked for an independent assessment from specialist Peter Hamlyn, who saw McCoy on Thursday evening.

Hamlyn's report charting McCoy's progress was enough to satisfy Dr Turner to give him the all-clear this morning.

"He's in the middle of a rehab programme, but as far as we are concerned he can start to get back to race-riding from Saturday onwards," added Dr Turner.

"He's coming along nicely and as he's been riding out for a while now, he can now progress to the next stage - which is race-riding."

Absolutely.... he's almost certain to come off something [such is the pace and rough and tumble at the business end] he's quite likely to do more serious damage. And although you have to admire his commitment, I'm not sure I'd want him my horse next week, so soon after such a serious injury

But AP is AP, and he'd ride strapped on if he could and if there were no other way

Are you suggesting that he's being passed fit when he isn't? Only someone who turned down A P McCoy next week would be crazy.

Did you see that ice cold chamber he had to sit in to stimulate the blood? It was on the BBC news yesterday and he set a record for how cold he was able to stand in this chamber for a period of time. He was bright red when he came out. :what:

AP'scommitment to this sport is 200% and although I would pass him over for Mick Fitzgerald on Bay Hawk :P , I still think he is a real legend and I am just pleased his injury (although serious) did not stop him getting back in the saddle for this years Festival.

I take my hat off to him and I really hope he has a few winners at Cheltenham. He deserves it.

Well done and welcome back, AP McCoy, definitely the iron man.

he might be all of those things but I always find it a bit hard to warm towards monomaniacs...

There's a difference between being 'passed fit' to ride, and being 110% which you need to be to win championship races round Cheltenham; and if he does take a tumble, it's not good news for an only recently knitted spinal injury. I know he will working his socks off to get himself A1, but's it's awfully soon after a major back op of that nature to be going into such a cauldron.

This isn't egg and spoon races round Exeter we're talking about - it's the most demanding meeting/races [bar the GN] at the most demanding course in the world

I am sure A.P. knows all the dangers Headstrong, and I am sure he knows the difference between riding a couple of easy races at Exeter and winning a big race at Cheltenham. His competitive spirit is probably what physically and mentally spurs AP on. The man and his pain threshold are beyond my personal comprehension. He so desperately wants to continue winning and is absolutely driven. Personally, I have nothing but absolute admiration for him and this sport, I feel, would be a much emptier place without him in it.

I wish AP an accident free Festival but also hope he has the winners he so rightly deserves.

All that said, AP still can't ride Bay Hawk again! :D He rode him before I owned him and Bay Hawk was pulled up. Never mind Tone, you had your chance! :P

Turner really wouldn't have passed him fit to ride if he wasn't.

Besides which, AP has a brain and knows his own body. He doesn't want to risk putting himself on the easy list for months on end by being stupid. We all know our own bodies, what hurts, what is too much and pace ourselves accordingly. You have to push yourself sometimes but again you will know yourself if you are going too far. I'm planning to be back in the saddle in roughly half the time that has been estimated after I go under the knife.
