Racing at Ascot always used to be big event for me, but lately, whether it be the television coverage or the redesign of the course, the racing at the course seems to have lost a lot of its lustre.

Of course, I'm not talking about the Royal Meeting, that will always sparkle, but yesterday's meeting seemed totally void of atmosphere.

I suppose competing with the July Meeting contributed in some way but it still felt awfully flat.

I think any huge venue is likely to come across as lacking atmosphere, especially on the TV, unless it's approaching a capacity crowd. What kind of crowd is likely to turn up to a card like todays? The dubious use of sound effects by the BBC doesn't help either.
