Assessment Centres

I'm attending an assessment centre for a trainee HR managerial position with a very large retailer on Tuesday, and it runs from 9-5. I also have to attend a "casual" dinner tomorrow evening which is apparently "not assessed" although I am not convinced of this.

I understand there will be a lot of group work involving case studies etc. and a face to face interview. I've already completed numeracy and literacy tests as part of the application.

I was wondering if anyone has attended an assessment centre before and if they had any tips or advice.

Many Thanks

Haven't a clue, duckie, but best of luck with this ordeal! :( Let's hope it'll be worth the travails if you get the job.

Remember: clean shoes, clean collar, firm handshake. Check nostrils for observable hair or bogeys. Reasonable eye contact, but not cobra-and-mongoose tactics. Take a couple of toothpicks so that after the casual dinner, you can remove any spinach before giving the CEO's wife that winning, yet boyish, grin...

Don't forget they'll be assessing your alcohol intake at this 'casual' dinner. "Just a Snowball for me!" :D Seriously, all the best.

GS, I have no idea, but as someone who works in IT for a "major retailer", I will say that they are all as thick as pig shit in our HR department so if it's anything similar I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Good luck, gamla. I would agree that you will be being asessed all the time, even at the casual" dinner.
