It hardens because of a comment made by the Mufti Sheikh Al Hilaly.  The comment he made several weeks back was when he said a woman being uncovered (one whom doesn't dress like a Muslim) deserves to be raped, and is like a piece of scrap meat waiting for the lions to attack you.

In other words a woman should be covered from head to toe, otherwise men will rape them, and deservingly.  He has defended his comments, however it was obvious he was serious about it when footage of it was released to the public.

This comment had public outrage, and angered the entire community, including Muslims (both those whom choose to wear their head piece, and those that didn't).

A lot has happened over the past 12 months in Australia, that the world doesn't hear about.  In December of last year the Cronulla riots happened.  The basis of this was the toleration of Muslims against "white Australians."  What should have been a peaceful protest where 2 lifeguards were king hit and bashed by 2 Muslims for no apparent reason, turned into one of the deadliest days I have ever seen in my area.  I live near Cronulla, about 10 mins in fact.  What was most sickening was seeing the white Australians holding Nazi flags, beer bottles, and calling themselves Supremists.

In saying that what happened, happened for a reason. Being a local of this area, for more than 22 years, one of the worst moments of my life came when I was threatened with rape as an 18yo with my best friend and several school friends at a picnic.  A gang of 30 Lebanese Muslims came up told us to clear out of the area, unless we covered ourselves.  Two of the boys in our group got bashed, and ended up in hospital.  We called the police, and what should have taken 1 minute to get to the beach, took 45 mins.  By then the gang had gone, and were nowhere in sight.

Being an Australian is a privilege and an honour.  Modern Australia was found upon democracy and christian foundations.  If you want to live here, you learn the history both of the aboriginals and the modern people whom came to make this country what it is, from Captain Cook, to the First Fleet that arrived in 1788 to those that made this a multicultural society that it is (and yes Clivex sorry to advise you we are a multicultural country, something I am proud to say that we are).  You learn about the ANZACs, those that fought in World War 1, 2, Borneo, Korea, Vietnam, etc and those whom fought under the Southern Cross of the flag to make us a free nation, you sing with pride when the anthem is rung.

And yes I am proud to boast about my wonderful nation, and get quite angry and emotional when people show absolutely no respect to us.
