Can anyone shed any light on the GoingStick results from Ayr?
The BHA website states that the mean GoingStick reading for good ground is 8, 6.4 for soft and 8.9 for good to firm.
At Ayr on Monday the going was officially soft but the GoingStick reading was 8.3.
I have noticed Ayr's results appear odd in the past, does anybody know the reason?

Possibly because going stick readings are generally from the day before to meet press deadlines. Ayr had a lot of rain subsequently, and the official going (as per the off time of the first race) was given as 'soft'.

I have highlighted teh fact many moons ago that going stick readings are inconsistent..and unfortunately little help to us punters

best to time the first couple of races...its about the only way to know

I think verti-draining might impact upon going stick readings too.

I'm not sure how many courses use verti-draining. Ayr and York do. Not sure who else.

the chronology of the descriptions does matter.

Case in point: York - RP still showing as:
GOOD TO SOFT (Good in places;5.8, home straight far side 5.9, centre 5.9, stands' side 5.7 for Friday and Saturday, while Turftrax already says:
Thursday 12th June; 15:45
Going Good (Good to Soft in places)
Going Stick Overall: 6.2, Farside: 6.4, Centre: 6.4, Standside: 6.3
- and likely to be a piece faster by the off.
