Regrettably, I find myself marooned in Barbados for a month getting ready for Cheltenham. The only G1 race in the Carribean is run here on Saturday but to my horror, following a visit to the course at Garrison Savannah this morning, I relaise there are no fences or hurdles to be jumped. Nevertheless, I've decided to treat the thing as a very short 9F bumper and try to find the winner anyway. Bean Ui Capall and I will be in attendance, so if anybody has a clue about racing here can you kindly select the winner, second and third.

Off you go.

Went in 2020 - just before COVID struck. They’ll bet to around 250% and it’s erm.. (have to consider libel repercussions) interesting results.

Have a few Banks’ and pick a number. Or just back Golden Touch as the owner goes for his 9th win in the race and I’d expect Jalon Samuel will ride, going for his 6th win in the race.

Decent pre-training routine that, Colm. Enjoy.

I was lucky enough to Holiday at a resort up at Holetown and go racing in Barbados
It was the early 90's and Scobie Breasly won the barbados Cup when I was there.
What sticks in my memory was a Rolls Royce pulled up as we arrived and the number plate was a Royal Crown apparently belonging to HM The King or his vice-regal. Didn't know at the time but I googled it.

Don't now about now but back then when they backed a winner the locals would swing from the rafters of the stands like monkeys:lol: But great easy going people..

Not a chance of me picking a top 3 at Garrison Savannah Colm, but I can pick my winner, second, and third restaurants for you in the Sandy Lanes / Holetown / St James area, if you haven't already found them:

1. The Tides
2. L'Acajou (At Sandy Lanes Country Club)
3. Lone Star

An amazingly enjoyable occasion and one for the memory (banks?). The sheer enjoyment of the huge crowd, the noise colour, parades and music were a joy to behold and makes our racing look very po-faced and sombre in comprison. Wilsonj was precient in his jockey recommendation - Jalon rode Itsagamble to win @5/2. I went for the third placed horse So Suave. 7/2.

One thing would worry me for the future though. During the second circuit while the horses were down the back the infield crowd broke the cordon and rushed to stand at the home straight rails. It wouldn't take too much over enthusiasm for someone to fall through onto the track during the scrum.

Anyway, great day, 28 degrees, rum, beer and gambling. The ground was firm and almost grassless, so I'm well warmed up for Cheltenham next week.

Sounds like Irish Grand National Day when I was a boy; you could hardly see the finish line the track was so crowded.
