Racehorsematch
At the Start
Anyone watching ATR's coverage of Greyville this afternoon would have heard some views on barrier trials.
I know Joao personally and I have a very different view to those he expressed on the subject of barrier trials.
For me the main benefit of barrier trials is to help the horse. It is a less stressful way of introducing a horse to racing conditions than a full blown race.
I have unraced 2yos in South Africa, so it is an issue that affects me in a small way.
ALSO - the horse that won the barrier trial won the first race - how does that not help the punter? The horse was favourite......so obviously some punters took notice.
As an owner of unraced 2yos I would not be against the introduction of them in the UK, subject the BHA drawing up suitable parameters. BUT the BHA have many more pressing issues that require their attention.
I don't have any experience with barrier trials in Australia but would be pleased to hear how they work if someone can enlighten me.
