Can any kind soul give me an idea how much beer costs in England these days?

Examples of beer I drink would be Aldi's own Sainte Etienne brand and Stella Artois.

I've noticed recently up here that prices have shot up to at least £3 per litre, which is shocking. It might be that they've raised the prices artificially ahead of claiming to put it on sale coming into the festive season.

I have an appointment some way down the M74 next week so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to carry on to Carlisle and stock up for Christmas and New Year and just wondered if it would be worth the extra journey to make the savings.

I might also pop into Morrisons there and pick up some wine and spirits. I imagine they'll be cheaper by some way too.

(Alcohol up here now carries a 65p per unit charge.)

I go out for a pint most Fridays early doors, rice lager is £4.50 a pint at my local. I drink at home too, at the moment I buy Birra Moretti Sal de Mare which is £6 for 3 bottles (660ml) at Sainsbury's.

Just checking Aldi, Saint Etienne Premium is £2.49 for 4 x 400ml cans

Cheers!

You’ll be paying £7 a pint in pub, in that there London.

The price of beer and wine out of shops is surely fairly similar, DO. Certainly not worth making a journey south of the border to save a couple of quid. 18 cans of Stella for £18 from Morrisons (£2.27/litre) is the best I’ve seen.

Depends on where you drink I've paid up to £8 for a 330ml bottle in Birmingham and that comes with a 12.5% service charge on top. It was about £7.80 a pint down at Cheltenham at the paddy power meeting. I had the delights of going in a working man's club for the first time in a long while I ordered 4 drinks and instinctively got 30 quid out the barmaid gave me the tenner back said I don't need that and I still got a fiver back out of the score. If I'm drinking at home beer wise I like either Staropramen or Menabrea and it's 3x 660ml bottles for 6 quid from Tesco. Gone are the days where as a kid I used to go by the out of date beer from the joblot for about 3 quid a crate. Personally I'm thinking of going sober next year as whilst I love a drink and it chills me out its also is a big motivation killer and I've achieved very little worthwhile over the past couple of years.

Mo I'm taking it you retired out to Spain? I know you were talking about when I was last about on here are you out there permanently now ?

There's a minimum price per unit in Scotland (and Wales) so probably more expensive there.

In my local (Welsh) Tesco, 4 x 440ml cans of Poretti are £6 reduced to £4.50 with a Clubcard. 660ml bottles of San Miguel are £1.99 each.

In the pub, San Miguel is £4.40 and Poretti £5 a pint.

Seems like when you cross the line no matter where you are they are happy to overcharge you. O don't drink these days but my friends do and meet usually st small restaurants where a large bottle of beer/a pint cost 2 pounds ...but head to the coyote bars in the red light district you will pay about 10 pounds for a pint

Asking for a friend where exactly are those coyote bars ?

When I retire in February. Spoons will be getting visited, more regularly.
I walk past Spoons when I visit my regular watering hole, it's my way of getting exercise and also helping the local economy (that's my story & I'm sticking to it).

I'd need a crane just to lift me onto the bar these days mate and probably throw my hip out if I tried any fancy dance moves.

Not yet, Danny.

Brexit created too much uncertainty to start with and then Covid happened and then prices shot up.

We've been over a few times property hunting and hope to sort something out in the next 12 months.

There are 3 main areas.one of which I would advise you/your friend not to go within a mile of called Patpong. It's really for naive tourists most of which get ripped off.

Best are in Sukhumvit area.........Soin Cowboy is in Sukhumvit Soi 23 Nana Plaza about half a mile down the road in Sukhumvit Soi 6. Soi Cowboy has about 5 bars owned by the same guy which you can't miss.......girls outside the bars asking you in are all 18/24 and look like supermodels.......I driink for you and one for her cost about 12 quid........go go bars are much less costly.

I had an impressively cold pint of Cruzcampo for €3 sitting outside under deep blue skies in a square in Nerja on Sunday. Shame the thermometer had only risen to 24 but you can't have it all.
