Takes me back to the days when I met Norman Dalgetty at his hotel in the borders.
He was a permit holder and on occasion an old friend Donal Nolan rode a few well backed winners for him.
The name The Braw lad springs to mind that we had quite a touch on but maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.
A permit holder he trained a horse called Davy Blake who won so many times at Kelso they named a chase after him.
I think he won 8 races at Kelso and 14 or 15 in total with him.
Permit holder Charlote Postlthwaite who trained at Norton with her bookie husband in the background pulled off one of the biggest touches ever seen at Sedgefield
on course and off was Tarqa ridden by Tony Charlton it won by 30 lengths and financed a new training set up in the South of France.
One of her best horses was Abandoned Warrior who won 4 very cleverly placed races for her and was a bit of a w6times (went well will win when wanted)and over all she was more susseful percentage wise than most full time trainers.
The great thing about Permit holders yards is they are run very very privately and only a few people know when the day is the day.
