Belkin G wireless router

I've had a Belkin router for three years now. Pretty solid piece of kit. Heaps better than the Netgear ones that I had no end of trouble with beforehand.

I'm thinking of going ahead with this router thingy.

Do I need to change broadband provider or inform my existing one? Will my existing modem work alongside the router?

DO, you don't need to change or inform broadband provider. You won't need your old router either. Just plug this one in, connect the pc to it with the ethernet cable provided, and run the setup. Once done, you will be able to access it 'wirelessly' from anywhere in the home.

So it connects to the PC and not to the telephone entry point?

(Can you tell I'm not up to speed with this kind of thing??)

I don't have an 'old router' - just my broadband modem which links from the telephone point in the upstairs back room to the PC (in the same room).

The spec is as follows:

Wireless router + 4-port switch (integrated) (whatever that means )
Data transfer rate: 54mbps
Frequency band: 2.4 Ghz
Manufacturer warranty: Limited lifetime warranty (whatever that means )

£24.99

Also, is a 1Gb USB flash drive for £3.90 a good buy?

Tried a couple and they were crap. Took them back and got refunded after a few arguments. Their aftersales team and technical support are also crap. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole and have them in the same category as Talk Talk. Used Linksys after Belkin, and had no problem, and a much, much better technical support service

Ive got a belkin..i think its an N

Works fine although i snapped the USB today and had to replace the damned thing. got a more powerful one and its more efficient for sure

Not a techie and warbler is probably right but at that price its probably not going to have much range or power

Its always routed to my Tangent (really recommend this) internet radio perfectly

Basically, you hook the Belkin up to the net (where your old router was) and do as Dave suggested. Once it is setup, anybody who has a wireless card in range and the correct WEP key (which you will be aware of from the set up process) can access the wireless router and get onto your home network and thus the internet. Be sure to set up the security on it, I still find it mind-boggling when I search for networks in range of my laptop and get about 4 or 5 with no password set up - not sure why I bother paying for the internet at home since most of my neighbours are generously sharing theirs with the rest of the street.

£3.90 for a 1Gb is fine.

Nowt wrong with BELKIN I have one to suit my NTL cabel they are different mind you, if your using a telephone connection only[BT] you must get the correct one .....

In the information it states it will work over 300 meters away but I have not tested it from that distance...................

I got this sitting on the floor and think it's biggest load of shite I brought, I am now using a Tompsons Speedtouch

Mixed messages, then...

I think I'll wait until I can get the Linksys one more cheaply.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
