I am going to Berlin for a couple of days with my sons. Any advice on the best touristy stuff to do?

Brandenburg Gate is good and it's only a short walk from The Riechstag, if you go up into the dome there's a pictoral history of The Riechstag and the various concerts held on the lawn in front of it during the division of Berlin.

Would definitely advise you take a trip up the TV Tower in the old East Berlin, it's near Alexanderplatz I think, will double check that but you can see the whole of Berlin from up there, might cost about 8 Euros or so but it's worth it for the view - magnificent.

The Third Reich I think i before e except after c as a general rule doesn't apply to German

Why as my post containing:

war.

Riech stinks.

Not been allowed?

The post contains nothing that contravenes the Board rules.

I posted the word "war" as a joke riposte at a remark made further up the thread.

"Riech" translated to english means smell.

It was me, Derek - probably because I'm fed up with trying to decipher your more inane posts.

We all know you can speak German, Derek - why you think we would be impressed with this feat I have no idea as you live there but, as probably 98% of us on here don't speak German, why you keep bothering to remind us beats me.

So you got deleted.

OK?

James, I am handing over to you the delightful task of moderating our bilingual contributor for the rest of the day as I am too busy to have time to do so! B)

Songsheet,
it is with the greatest respect that i ask you read the board Rules.

With special reference to the following:

1:Persistant xenophobia, racism or personal abuse directed at other forum member

I have let several intsances pass by, but i think that i shall draw the line here.

This is my last day of holiday and I m off to the park . Brian can't be working surely ?

Berlin, a brilliant city to visit.

I'd take a trip on the S-Bahn to Wansee and Pottsdam, very nice down there.

The ex-Stasi HQ is very interesting too and is a must see.

Just back - wonderful time. The Germans are going out of their way to rebrand themselves as fun loving and friendly, and a damn fine job they are doing.

Took a train to Leipzig yesterday, hoping to buy some ticket for the Holland game. Joined the other 30,000 Orangies with the same idea. Made do with the party at the 'Fan Fest' - carnivals in the city squares around the games on the big screens. Super atmosphere and vibe.

Prices not ratched up - good cold beer at the fests €3 for 500ml. Room in 3* hotel €65. Really wish I could have stayed longer.

Isn`t life great at this time of year? Starting today i have three weeks off work for the World Cup, Wimbledon and Royal Ascot, with six days in Spain thrown in for good measure from wednesday

So do we back Croatia aginst the favourites?
According to every barman, hotel porter, waitress and taxi driver I met - yes.

I can recommend Dubrovik to everyone.

I'm off to the Algarve on Sunday. I don't require any information about it, I just thought I'd share it with you all. Have a nice time in blighty. :D
