   Roll out the red carpet, I'm coming back! Since my maternity leave ended I've been on a zero hour contract so I could still work in my lovely shop if the fancy took me. Next Wednesday and Thursday evening I'll be going in to remind myself how it all works and then I'll be managing on the 28th & 29th with my chum Pete. I ridiculously excited about leaving the junior Griffins with Mr GG, drinking copious amounts of tea, watching the racing, gossiping with the natives, faffing about with some cash and getting paid for it

Rather you than me.

Good luck with it, but I fancy that the initial excitement will wear a bit thin when you have been at the shop since 09:00, one of the runners for the 21.50 Musselburgh is running loose, the fruit machine hasn't paid out someone's winnings and that the tramp asleep in the corner has just soiled himself (again).

...and there's some nob just asked you to change up a £20 note whilst they're at the post for said 2150 Musselburgh so he can feed his pathetic habit on the other fruit machine!!

Good luck!!

You wonder why some people continue with the jobs they've chosen! Guys - you can always leave, y'know, the days of indentured service are long over! Fortunately, Griffs, you seem to be very happy with yours and I wish you a very satisfying return. It'll be interesting to learn how Mr Grumpy copes during your absence!

Not that it's stopped you moaning since, madam! And Relkeel, poor dear thing - chained to the wall night and day, I hear? Gwaaaaan... you know you love the martyrdom!

Well, the refreshing change will be that Griffin will actually enjoy her job, and we won't suffer moans and groans even years after she's left it!

Maybe I'm just lucky but 99.9% of my punters are reasonable nice enough people who give me no bother at all. Same old, day in, day out. Same people glued to the FOBTs but they do leave on time. The only soiling was done by a dog and he's since been barred  No fruities in my shop either, so that's one less thing to worry about.

It'll make a pleasant change from nappies, a whinging baby and arguing kids.

So we can take it you have no access to 'talkinghorses.co.uk' at work?

He's back in good form, isn't he? I imagine the winter lay-off has seen him well rested, and now he might return to the form of old - stalk the pace, then cut down his rivals with a withering putdown on the line.

What shop do you work at Griffin? I'm at 204. I did an all-dayer yesterday, and got another one today. :(

Still the nice man above has a wireless router, so I can get online in work when it's quiet. norty

Shop 262, Faringdon. Not having the internet at work isn't too much of a bother, I've got Betfair on my mobile, Mr GG is only a phonecall away if I need him to put a bet on online with another firm and if he can't manage it home is less than a three minute drive away in emergencies

It just gets better. Today I learnt that for some reason I wasn't put on a zero hour contract, my old one just kept running even though I didn't work at all last year. But I've managed to clock up four weeks holiday money and they'll pay me that next week :D Money for nothing! :D I'm sure it's a mistake but they were quite determined that the money was mine so who am I to argue? :D
