A chap called John (IIRC) Spence was my English teacher, he was Chairman of the Richard III Society and an absolutely tremendous bloke - Richard III (obviously) and Cider With Rosie were the works he guided us through for English Literature O Level.

Spence taught me things in the late 1970s about use of the English language that have stayed with me to this day.
