This year has been marked by the usual

1 Endless dross on weekdays

2 declining field sizes except for those Class 5 & 6 cards that are banded racing in all but name

3 A declining horse population

4 Massive over concentration of the best racing on Saturdays

Well the BHA's much lauded "structured and inclusive process "( what crap ) has come up with an increase in fixtures for heavens sake . A quick perusal of the list shows

1. Endless dross on weekdays !

2 No Folkestone and Hereford of course . Yet it seems even more of Lingfield , Wolves and Southwell than ever

3 A 2 day Lincoln meeting without competition from the Kempton AW card . That is a minor plus

4 No improvement at all in the terrible crap put on nowadays on Bank Holidays

5 The Craven and Guineas meetings still at their truncated 2 days

6 A very early Derby meeting 31 May & 1 June

7 Sat 13th July - the most preposteously overcrowded race day of the year followed by three gaff tracks NH cards on the Sunday

In short the same bloated fixture this year - with a few more " waffer thin mints " added

So, are you happy with the fixture list?

13th July is utterly bonkers - July Cup , John Smith's Cup and Ascot Summer Mile all on the same day plus Chester .

What I find hardest to accept is the low grade stuff that's run on bank holiday Mondays.

I assume it is two things - staff costs cut the profits and the loss of terrestrial TV coverage . That saw the end of Sandown's top class May Bank Holiday .

Easter Monday is the worst - that used to have Kempton's Rosebery card , May bank holiday is little better - it once had the Jubilee Hcap at Kempton ( a race now that is no more than a Class 4 London Mile qualifier in 1991 it was a 0-110 worth £23,332 to the winner ) .and a card at Donny that included a conditions race that Dubai Millenium ran away with . August Bank Holiday once had the Virginia Stakes a G2 at Newcastle that Oaks winners used to run in !!! .

It is bizarre though as that is one day when you would have thought that people are looking for something to do such as go racing

Think the theory is that the majority of Bank Holiday racegoers go for the day out and are not too concerned about the standard of the racing.

Busloads of drinkers and family picnics who cares?

I agree entirely, Luke.

One might say that the Rowley Mile course has never recovered from doing so when they ripped down the old stand with hundreds of seats and replaced it with a giant Wetherspoons where you had to join a poncy Millenium Club for £1000 a year to get a seat .
