What are your biggest betting regrets?

Whether that's regretting not putting more on or simply regretting to put that horse in your Scoop 6 to only see it go in and win!

Go..

Two that spring to mind both involve hangovers.
The first was Scottish National day 89 or 90a-had a lucky 15 where the first 3 won at decent prices -the last one was a talking horse of Josh Giffords.I said to my father the one I really wanted to put in was Four Trix in the Scottish National at 25/1.Four Trix cruised around and won nicely the other yoke was pulled up.It would have meant about a years disposable income to me.
The second was Sibton Abbey in the Hennessy -at the time I thought AdrianMaguire could walk on water.Told everyone I worked with he was a great bet at 100/1.Anyway I was chasing a woman the night before and didnt get home until 4 or 5.Made it to Hills at tem past ten the price had been cut to 50s-Ladbrokes only went 66/1- in disgust I backed another horse.Sibton Abbey made all the running and left me absolutely devastated.
I think your education as a punter doesn't come cheap.

I hope you were successful incatching the woman you were chasing and getting some satisfaction

Mine was when I got my bonus horses in the Tote Ten to Follow down to 3 selections and finally crossing off Ravens Pass and selecting the other two - I was in 6th place at the time and had I chose Ravens Pass I would have won. Just to rub it in I finished outside the top ten. I think it was the only year I can remember when we got to see the Guineas before the competition started. :(

I think it was in the early 80's, when I got told all the Tompkins horses had big chances on the Friday.

Had the day off and was out on a birthday bash anyway. Spent the morning getting small win and doubles on the two runners and top up in town at lunch time.

Went to the bookies to watch both of them win @ around 8's and 12/1 and the planned party got even bigger.

Got up the following day, to look at the days results, with still a massive buzz of self satisfaction, to find he had another winner at Ayr that I never even spotted at 8/1.

Im goung to throw cat amongst pidgeons a bit here and say that i find horse racing fascinating but betting stories incredibly boring.

This site has drifted more towards betting talk in recent times. Fair enough if thats what people want

Its one of those things like listening to someone telling you about a great wnk theyve had. You learn nothing from it and in truth yOu really dont want to know

Fair point but in my experience the people who are really into betting on horses are massively aware of the history and heritage of the game.

That's fine, but there are people who will be interested in the betting stories of others. Not every topic is going to interest every forum member. A lot won't be into point to points or reading about breeding for example.

A couple of months ago I had an insightful moment, (when everyone was saying Man U were a foregone conclusion to win the league), that Man City would (or could) pull it round in the closing stages.

I thought I'd get about 10/1, but they were only 4/1 at the time. Then I thought, " see if the price gets a wee bit bigger".

Only a few days later it did go bigger, a general 25/1 chance. By this time I'd decided that the bookies must have known something I didn't, and I must have been thinking bollox again.

Hence I wish I'd taken the 25/1 now. It was a case of the price being so big I couldn't believe it could come off in a million years.

Everytime I hear a radio or news bulletin about the premier league now I just find myself thinking about a dream bet that never was.

My biggest regrets are talking myself out of backing a horse I fancy because the price is to big. Convincing myself that today is not the day, then watching them win at decent prices.
