Sold out to Betfair all of a sudden? What's that all about?
(Or maybe it was in the pipeline, but that I just wasn't aware of developments).

Can I ask, has anybody else on here received the below email this morning?

"Dear XXXX,

We have some important information regarding your Blue Square Bet account. Please take a moment to read through it carefully.

As of today, 2nd April 2013, you will no longer be able to bet with Blue Square Bet as we have transferred accounts to Betfair.

We would like to assure you that all funds are perfectly safe and secure. Any unsettled bets will be honoured and settled by Betfair.

Please take a look below at how this may affect you.

What do I do now?

You now need to activate your new account by going to bluesq.com where you will be asked to enter your existing Blue Square Bet username and password.

Your username is XXXXXXXX. If you have forgotten your password you will need to call Betfair Customer Services on 0844 871 0000 and they will be able to reset this for you.

ACTIVATE MY ACCOUNT NOW

What happens to the money I had in my Blue Square Bet account?

Any funds you had in your account, including free bets, bonus cash, promotional funds, ipoints and loyalty points have all been transferred to Betfair. The good news is you will be able to access all funds in full and use these how you wish.

Any withdrawals that have already been made from Blue Square Bet will be processed as normal.

What will happen to my unsettled bets?

If you had any unsettled bets they have been transferred to Betfair. These will be honoured and settled by Betfair with any returns credited to your new Betfair account.

I already have a Betfair account. What happens to me?

You will still need to activate your transferred account with Betfair by entering the username and password you previously used on Blue Square Bet.

You will still be able to log into your existing Betfair account with your existing Betfair login details.

I am unfamiliar with Betfair. Can I still place fixed odds sports bets with them?

Yes. Betfair offer fixed odds betting on all the markets that you have been used to betting on at Blue Square Bet. They also have a betting exchange with further betting options, as well as market-leading Casino, Games, Bingo and Poker products.

For further queries please email bluesquare@betfair.com, call 0844 871 0000 or view more information by clicking here.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for betting with Blue Square Bet and wish you luck in the future.

The Blue Square Bet Team"

So I have now followed the instructions in the email, and it results that I now have two Betfair accounts under two different names?
Betfair always had a Single-account-only policy, didn't they?

Has anyone else had this email and acted upon it ?

It would seem that Bluesquare have sold their database of client's details ( and accounts) to Betfair.

Not too bad. :)
I see I have been given a free £25 bet on Betfair Sportsbook for following the instructions in the Bluesquare email .............. so maybe everyone else with Blsq account should check.

Betfair are very liberal regarding multiple accounts.

I got the email too. No idea when I last used the BSq account - their prices were not competitive and I don't recall any offers ever from them. I zeroed it some time back and have never used it since. No loss, but I will check to see if there's a free £25 bet at Betfair waiting for me...

Blue Square had me factored right down. I used to use their prices via 888.com. This is a tough blow for me getting on.

I must say I liked Bsq.
They were always v. slow to update prices in the five minutes or so before the Off -- a boon when your intended selection was shortening in price. Many, many's the time I backed at 4/1 with Bsq when the odds had strengthened to 7/2 on Betfair.

My bets are all on by about 10.30am. It's fairly rare for me to back anything during the afternoon.

That would have been when they were returning their own SP. I disagree tgst they price uncompetitively, I've had loads of bold type bets with them and 888.com. During Cheltenham they were ultra competitive. I just want to get in do guatanteed prices I can do without.

We obviously back different types and/or we're maybe different types of backers! I'm not conscious of their being bold with any prices. I'm sure if I did I'd be conscious of thoughts like 'shame they're not doing BOG', in the way I'm conscious of Ladbrokes' BOG not kicking in until after 10am. SJ withdrew their BOG for a while then reinstated it.

I get nearly all my study done the night before (two nights for the flat) and tend to spend the morning keeping an eye on the prices to see whether I should dive in early or hang off until after 10am (when B365's price match guarantee kicks in) but 99% of my bets are on by about 10.15am. After that it would be rare for me to have any more bets.

I admit I'd feel annoyed if I took 5/1 in the morning and it won at 11/2, let alone 7s or 8s, in much the same way I'd be annoyed if I paid £1 for a loaf only to see it on offer at 75p a few shops along the road. I'd get over it but I'd remember the other shop did an offer.

5.03.13 10:22 Lucky 15 €300.00 1.30 - Triumph Hurdle Win or Each Way
Rolling Star 4.50 €211.25 €0.00 View

3.20 - Cheltenham Gold Cup Win or Each Way
Sir Des Champs 4/1

4.00 - Foxhunter Chase Win or Each Way
Chapoturgeon 9/2

5.15 - Grand Annual Win or Each Way
Alderwood 11/2

The above were all bold type on Gold Cup day and were front end e/w races. Having send that a quick review has shown that I use them to get on rather than best price so overall you're right. If I'm backing something at 11/2, I'm almost certain it will SP at 9/2 or shorter. Different strokes and all that.

Slim, will you stop bringing the first three horses above on any thread?
I've just finished my counselling sessions from Cheltenham

I was also on Rolling Star, SDC and Alderwood. By the time I was getting on the best I could get about RS was 100/30 but I got the 4/1 and 11/2 resp the other two. (The lucky winner Salsify at 11/4 was the other bet.) No edge for me on the day other than getting a free bet on the next televised race had any won at 4/1 or better (Alderwood didn't qualify) but I can reckon on three or four free bets a month. If I turn any of them into a decent winner it can make a huge difference and even getting a losing stake back helps in the big scheme of things.

I finally got round to this instructing this change, and I have grave news to report about the process.

There was obviously f*ck-all in my Blue Square account.
